3/26/13

Went up today and just got home and started thawing my frozen feet.  Fished from 900  till 130 or so.  Day started slow and picked up here and there, especially when the sun came out.   I went 2 for 6 today and you had to work hard for the fish but they were there and biting.   I got ALL my hits on a small blue egg.  tried alot of other things and colors, but only the blue egg.   The 2 I got to the shore were loose and spit a few eggs.   I did net a real fresh female for a guy.   Knowing I got to get up there when the gettin'   is good will probably head up tomorrow too, but I have a dentist  at 8AM  and have to be home early afternoon to check on my grandmother,  so it will be another short day like today.

Your report gets me thinking bout the blue and the purple flies I picked up last season --hmmmmm
No name I know of just nice fluffy blue or purple in 6 to 8.
I dont like knowing their names cause I get all teary eyed and remorseful when I loose them. by by Phred by by Alexander etc--

Yep, that's a decent day right there. Thanks for the report, pics and fly info. I got at least 2 dozen blue left, maybe more.  Best of luck tomorrow, I hope I catch you while I'm out, if only to say hello.

    Nice !
    Thanks for the report.
I was up in plenty of time to get to the river but I couldn't  force myself to cram myself into the car for an hour and a half + each way.
Guess I should have since I got blanked around home.

It was a beautiful day out today, wind was not so bad as it is now.  Just the water is so cold my feet got cold.  That's the only thing I do not like about my stocking  foot set up.  I was only wearing 1 pair of good wool socks though,  tomorrow will be 2.    I took my boots off 1/2 way through and warmed  my feet on the nice warm flat rocks.   I also saw about 4 or 5           3 to 4  inch fish which were  either little bows or little steel.   All did not look good and close to death.

HT,   I gave it try  for about 15 minutes without a tap.   The seam I was fishing  was towards the tail and the swing was in what I would consider less than optimal  (pretty slow moving) water .

Jack, I did not give that one a try yet.   I like to keep alot of the swap flies and use them as templates for future ties as I do much better looking at something that I want to tie.   Good news is that I tied a few up right after I received them I will try it tomorrow.  I think I have some 4# cortland around somewhere.  Smallest I have in my pack is 5#  maxima right now, which I am undecided on if I like it .   I have really come to like the strength of drennen, but know it is thicker than others. I used 6# drennen today

Clint nice job man. Jacks right, anything with peacock herl works great.

Maxima chameleon in 3,4,and 5 used to be all we ever used. The stuff is tough and strong no doubt...

Always used trilene xl myself or Ande.
Never went below #6 and never felt it kept 1 fish from biting.
Not as abrasion resistent as Maxima but much less stiff so a much better presentation.
The Drennen is strong stuff but yes it is over diameter for break strentgh claim.
I used the Seagar blue lable with great success this year.
Thinner and more supple than the Drennen.
    Did I mention cheaper too
    Whatever you have faith in.
