This year might not be so hot with the overload of shad they can eat and there may be more of a fish kill then just shad

Water table is low right now and that will most likely keep the pike isolated to certain areas. Even if the shad are plentiful I dont think it will be hard to find some to bite. If the water comes up they will spread out more and make it more difficult to find them. That just means you will have to cover more water and work a bit harder for a bite. However that , to me , will make it more satisfying hooking up.

Deetz, I completely agree. Last year right around St. Pats day we hooked into a few nice pike and bass. Altho it was much warmer last year this time, so i assume the water was slightly warmer which helped with the action. Altho we had ice forming on the tip of the rod this year, it was still nice to break out of the cabin fever and give it a try. it would be nice to get some warmer temps to get the water up another 5 degrees or so and maybe stir up some more action.

yes you are right my friend i totally agreed with your statement.

Are those boats "pike proof" ?    I mean pike have some really nasty teeth and I would hate to get a puncture.

I figured that the lagoons, Misery bay, Horeshoe, Marina bay, will or has skimmed over in ice again. Can anyone update? I won't get out this weekend but maybe next.

ready2fish , If there is a skim of ice out there Imma be breaking it up and paddling through. Its been real windy last 2 days. I dont think the winds let the water rest enough for ice. Just a guess though

Sweet, let us know how you do. I'm heading up for Easter and I'm hopeing to take my yak out for some early season pike. I'm thinking the Lagoons or Miser Bay.

Reminds me of the " Easter Pike ". I've caught some really nice pike out of the bay over the last handful of years ( I'm still pretty much a novice pike fisherman ). But the one I lost on Easter Sunday I will never forget. Hands down was gonna be my biggest ever, when Slick yells to me " watch out for that log jamb!". Sure enuff, the fish got all tangled up in it. I kept the tension and watched as the fish unraveled and was free of the lumber. As I kept the tension and slowly walking backwards, I started thinking, WALL HANGER ( big mistake ). I should have never got greedy like that in my mind. Just as the thought left my brain..............SNAP!!!!!!!!!!

The last pike I caught out of PI put two hooks onto wrist and had to go to the emergency room. Think I'll try and repay the favor and put a few hooks in them next week.
