Gulp info
I know that I have a similar topic on the Off Topic board, but know many don't look there. I did a little searching on these, some on this site (thanks Kayak 99) and others. Here are some things that I have found. Hopefully helps a few out when gearing up. Please add if you have any tips ect. I'm not trying to plug the product, just tips that will hopefully save some bucks for those already fans of the product. The containers are horrible, and just pulled out a bag of dried out Gulp minnows (almost full bag). I had already thrown out a bag of the night crawlers, but wasn't about to make that $6 mistake again. I put them in a cup of water over night, and just like new (texture/form). Now in a screw top, hopefully leak proof, container. As noted in a thread from 2 or so years ago, if you accidentally leave on your hook, let soak in water for a day to remove. The colors do not run, so I put all of my open bags into one container. I plan on using a zip lock bag for what I think will be enough for the day, or just take the container. This took me about an hour of searching, and something I am sure many have wondered... There is about 3 packs worth in the small tubs. Not sure about the large ones, but had read close to 10 packs. Also in the tubs are the refresher (which you can buy separately). So, at MSRP, about $25 for 3 packs and bottle of refresher and $20 for the small tub. Keep an eye on the Berkley site for their promos, and have a full list of the colors they make. They added some new ones to the tubs, that were only available in the packs before.

Also, I have found that even with the containers (screw tops) they still find a way to leak out. So also as mentioned above, it would be safe to carry the container, jar or bag in an additional zip lock bag to avoid leakage into your tackle bag.

I carried them in a ziplock like mentioned above until a week ago. I found a Plano Waterproof box at Walmart on clearance for $3. They are made for baits like these. I picked one up and dumped all of my Gulp into it. Works great. Plus it's easy to pick through them and get the one that you want/need. The little waterproof boxes that they sell in the camping aisle at Walmart for $5 would work great too.

I'm hoping the one that I am currently using (Ziplock screw top) will work. I'm not too convinced though, there is no silicon gasket. Thanks Slab for the camping aisle tip. I might swing by Wallyworld to check on brisket prices... I saw others mention the Tupperware or similar with the gaskets and clamp tight. I have some in the kitchen, but have vent holes with plugs that I would imagine would be ripe for leaking. I'd also prefer screw on lid, since I've had accidental spills with the clamp ones in my kitchen, and seem to splash when clamping and unclamping. Don't want to lose any juice! I saw those boxes that you have, but look like $30 online. $3 sounds like a steal.

I got one of those water tight, air tight with lids that snap on filled it with olive oil, used, left it upside down over night NO leaks. Forgot to say at a Dollar store, plus they had a lot of different sizes and shapes.

It was a smaller one about 4"x6" and I just couldn't walk away from it. $3 was excellent. There are 3 clamps on it, so it won't leak. Conversely, it is kind of a pain to open/close. There is very little juice in the jars that you buy. It doesn't cover all of the baits once you dump them in the box, but with an airtight/watertight seal, I don't think it matters. I saw that Plano makes a screw lid jar-type container for them too, but it's $15. It also looks like smaller baits (1" Gulp Minnows) would be a pain to dig out of it. It even comes with a pair of tongs. This box works just fine. The ones in the camping aisle should work great too. There are different sized boxes there. You should be able to find one that is right for you at a decent price.

I anyone doesn't mind sharing, what sizes and colors of gulp minnows work best for some of you on trout. I used them a couple times last year with not much success. Just wondering how you present them and what colors and sizes seem to work best. I'd like to use them since they are easier to carry than live minnows.

For Crappie I use 1" in Chartruese and Shad (black&silver). I fishe them on a 1/64 or 1/32 minifoo jig. The hot colors of minifoos are always chartruese and red head/ white feather. Yellow also works well. Depending on conditions, I will either fish them vertically or under a slip bobber. Last year I slammed the perch by tying one on, then another one dropshot style about a foot above it, then fishing them under a slip bobber. I pulled doubles pretty consistently. For walleye I used the chartruese, the perch color, and the fire tiger color, and the shad color on a 1/16 oz glow jig and did really well. I used either plain glow or red glow. Black eyespots caught more fish than no eyespots.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that for the walleye, I was using the 2.5" and 3" minnows.

I haven't used a color that hasn't worked... Depending on body of water and conditions. Definitely times when you can't buy a bite on one color, switch colors and can't keep them off. I don't trout fish very often, but have caught trout on them. I got a nice male steelhead this fall on a 1" chartreuse and white, on a bare 1/64 jig head, under a float. I fish the same for trout, or will also use a split shot or two and hook, and reel in through the current slowly. This will twist your line and gulp will spin, it kind of looks like a minnow swimming, so a small swivel (not snap swivel to the hook) would be a good idea. I use the 1" and 2.5" mostly, probably wouldn't go larger for most trout. I have also tipped rooster tails with either 1" or a piece. Only did this after I was getting a bunch of follows and nips on a regular rooster tail, but wouldn't hold on long enough for a hook set.
