Raccoon creek (not the lake) in Beaver County anyone tried?

To clarify anyone's confusion, i am talking about the raccoon creek that empties into the Ohio by 68 upriver of the Montgomery L&D.

I have always had my eye on the place and through google maps, it looks like cars pull off the road to fish it so i was hoping anyone that has ever tried it can offer up some input on what sort of fish hang out there and if its at least decent all year... basically curious if its worth a trip out there to even check.  Doesnt appear that its possible to get to the creek mouth.

Anyone had any experience out along that creek?

Raccoon Creek is the property line in my back yard. The fish usually start coming up towards the end of March, at least where I live, and stay til the end of fall. I have caught large/small mouths, carp, suckers, sauger, muskie. Get yourself a canoe and go fish.

That is my home water - been fishing it since '79-'80...back before then the mine drainage had it about sterile...check out the Beaver County Conservation Distric web site on ongoing stream reclemation.

You are right - the mouth is not accessable on foot.  By boat/canoe only.

    PM for more info.

Favorite place to wade and fish, great smallmouth fishing in early-mid summer using rooster tails and fly fishing for them is good too. Using worms brings in mostly rock bass and drum but carp and suckers sometimes bite too. My friends have pulled out largemouth, white bass, sauger and walleye out of there too, and I've tried fishin for cats.. no luck so far but it's awesome to live close enough to be able to walk down and fish all day, especially when you catch some nice fish. go fish

The down river side of the mouth is a very good spot for fall eyes and sauger. You need a boat and 1/4 leadhead jig w/ twister tails.I've had 50 -75 fish days there in the fall. I really never fished the stream much but have caught smallies in the summer months.

Good to hear guys - I was looking for some other good places to use the waders. It looks like it has great potential and even has cars parked along side of the stream on google maps LOL.

I know that section of the river is pretty decent after going to the downstream side of the Montgomery L&D.  Pulled out 4 decent sized eyes and will be going back there again for sure.

the stream has been fishing well the last couple of years, as long as we get lucky and not get to much water the mine acid isn't an issue. we can only wait and see what the shale drilling will do to the water quality.

if you drive along raccoon creek road off of 18 there are a bunch of places to pull off.  some you can fish from shore and some you can wade.  you'll be able to pick out the more popular spots very easily by the obvious parking areas. there are a ton of places to wade if you go past the parking area where most people fish from the shore.  i rarely run into other fisherman outside of the main spots.

you'll catch a complete smorgasbord of fish.  i've caught everything but trout from that stretch of water.  i know they stock raccoon creek in various spots... anyone ever caught any trout down that far?

wayne - sorry - they do not stock raccoon creek - there ARE trout that get blown in from Traverse and Little Traverse Creeks - say we get a good gully washer before the April opener - but they are few and far between.  I've personally talked to the PA fish WCO about stocking Raccoon creek from Clinton down to the park.

Other than that - I wouldnt know how trout got themselves in there... :>)

sorry, i guess i just assumed they did stock it below the outflow which would ultimately lead to the mouth??
