STEELHEAD

What is it about these fish that makes a 58 year old man on blood thinners stand in a stream on a 26 degree morning seem like a completely logical thing to do?

What is it about these fish that makes a 66 yr old man on blood pressure and painkiller meds do the same thing? It's the tug, " the tug is the drug." When you're in a run or hole with plenty of elbow room over a big pod of fish and getting pulled ever other cast it becomes obvious why it's all worth while.

I do not know what it is but i suffer from the same problem.
Yesterday I skipped work(self employed)for a half day of fishing some how quiting at noon turned into fishing til 5:30.No one around fish everywhere I casted I couldn't get enough.
Its a great way to refresh the mind during the winter months.
Now I must get caught up with work so I can do it all again sometime soon.

Deetz, I "feel your pain."  I had knee surgery a year ago and, while by no means as intensive as what you're going through, I couldn't stand being sat down.  Be patient.  The first time you slip and tweek something, you'll regret it.

You old guys gotta take your time and rehabilitate and even then have to be very carefull. A fall last March fishing required six weeks in a brace, knee surgery, rehab and many weeks of reduced activity. Been almost a year now and still have problems with the injured shoulder. Tried doing some spin fishing recently and still hurts. Give it time. Oh by the way I'm only 69.

I don't know what it is that effects you fellows that way but I can tell you it doesn't let up much even when your in your 70's.  Hopefully I'll be able to say the same thing about the 80's. Time well tell.

Considering your ages, you guys should know better. I'm half your age, so I can still pull the "youth stupidity" card, right?

A screaming drag sure does make you forget about alot, though. Even freezing temperatures.

munster, when you get to be our ages that "youth stupidity" becomes senior moments or brain farts.

Well, guess I'm not alone.....after a tough month of an immobilized arm, rotator cuff surgery has sidelined me at age 55....about the same time most of you will be hitting the spring runs either in Pa or Oh, I'll be in a physical therapists office twice a week for the next month hopefully rehabbin' - and after my first visit Thur I ain't lookin forward to the rest of 'em.

All we need is 1/2 inch rainfalls every two-three days, followed with temps in the 40's and no amount of percosets will calm my anxiety level.  First spring in 38 years not able to be on a stream is not the best medicine...........in the meantime, good luck to you all!

I just turned 73 and am blessed with good genes. No real health problems and still nimble,a lot of walking/exercise and trying to eat healthy works.
My problem is distance,I'm 6.5 hrs SE of Erie/Ohio and 4 hrs south of the SR.But I manage to get on the streams several times a year and if I was closer I would be there right through the winter.....just love to hear the drag scream!
I'll be in Ohio last two weeks of March visiting daughter and family and then I will be close enough
