Eagle Claw trolling combos
Has anybody used the Eagle Claw combos from this site for trolling? Sounds like a pretty good deal to get a level wind reel spooled with 10 colors with rod for under $60. I was thinking of picking up a couple of these but I've haven't heard anybody talk of them. Was also going to grab a couple of the line counter combos.

Seems like a deal. I'm sure they're no Sealines but it's not like your catchin' huge kings or anything. I'd say they're worth a try at that price. If I didn't already have LC setups I'd try one...
Curiosity killed the cat, but for awhile I was a suspect.

They don't hold up too well, for the money I would but another 10 in and at least get a Shapespeare basic, or the magda pro's aren't too bad I supposed

I'm a big fan of the Okuma Blue Diamonds, but they've doubled in price in the last year or so. Last year I converted all of my board rods over to Ugly Stik 7' trolling (casting) rods 1100-70...they work well and are durable. If I was to do it over again, I'd get the 2 piece rods (1102-70).

I think if I can't find any good used gear I found a place where I can get Magna Pro 45D's with Diawa Wilderness rods for $118.00 for 2.

I haven't seen too many major issues on the Magda reels, especially for their price. But, stay away from the cheaper Okuma rods, like the Classic Pros.

What didn't you like about the Okuma classic pro rods. I don't have any right now but I'm just wonder what makes your opinion on them? Are they heavy, eyes wear out, don't like how they load, break?

We have used both Diawa Wilderness and the Okuma Classic Pros for about 3 seasons of trolling, no problems with either brand.
Broke 1 tip on an Okuma, but that was accidentally stepped on.
Definately prefer the grips on the Okuma's though!

I don't own any, but several of the guys I fish with own them and they break easily. I was fishing with eyedreamn this fall and one of them snapped while fighting a medium size walleye. I think that was the fourth or fifth one that broke on him last year. One was his fault, the rest were not...and he takes good care of his gear. Shimano TDRs or Diawa Heartlands would be better low cost alternatives IMO.

I've had the complete opposite experience with those rods, I have a few that are maybe 5 years old, Im waiting for them to break so I can upgrade to something nicer, but they just wont break. I beat the crap out of them too! They have scratches and nicks all over, at $20 a piece I was never worried about taking care of them. They are all the older model classic rods.

It's funny how that works. Last year a guy was looking to replace his Blue Diamonds because a couple had been broken...I told him I had 14 of them for 6 or 7 years without any problems and he was surprised.
They are all the older model classic rods.
Maybe that's the difference?

Good buy for the money, keep the reels oiled and maintained and you should be able to get a good amount of years off them
