Just like WH said.. There are some fish. Sight fishing is really tough right now, so use common sense and fish holes that typically hold fish (without necessarily spotting the fish). Ninja-type stealth is very important this time of year. Additionally, ya might try throwing something they haven't seen 400 times from the few hundred anglers who have tricked them already.

temps in the 40s and 50s later this week-that sounds great to me.  Unfortunately i have "spent" all my trips to Erie and have no money left in my Erie fishing account with my wife
at least until next month that is.....

Actually IMO rain in combination with the snow melt will definitely lower the water temps in the cricks.  Which has a tendency to shock the fish into not feeding or give any reaction bite to anything floating by , with a quick lowering of the water temp they get lock jaw. Just an observation Ive noticed over the years.

I don't have nearly as much experience with steelhead specifically, but I've found this to be the case with most other fish, especially trout, as well.

However, this is only the case when it happens in the winter.  Getting cool rain in the form of a brief summer downpour to chill the water a bit is sometimes what turns a skunk of a day of fishing into one of the best trips of the summer.

Yes Cold , I was referring to winter time specifically.  I too have seen a summer rain turn on the fish into biting. But in the winter it shuts em off. Totally different situation in the cold of winter.

Deetz, they NEVER have lockjaw for you!!!...WF ..Agree. Snow melt is still puttin cold water in the creeks. Rain is usually warmer and the weather to make it rain, more agreeable.
