Checked upper Twin Lake at 3:00 PM. About 3". Walked out about 6 feet.Lower lake is locked up. Tried to walk to the ice from the boat house but there is a lot of unfrozen muck a few feet from the shore.

was that you i was talking to at the wishing well parking lot?

i fished the upper lake for about an hour and a half.  the ice is anywhere from about 1.5-3".  i drilled a few holes about 75' from shore, caught one perch.  i would have probably caught more but the ice was pretty sketchy.  you'll be standing on 3" of solid ice and then you'll move just a few feet and the ice will be a lot thinner.  i figure that i will wait for safer ice before going out again.  i might try a small private pond tomorrow if i can find bait.  gander mtn and d!cks in greensburg have no bait at all.

Jimmy's bait shop 71 Huff Ave. greensburg. I picked up some wax worms there yesterday. They also had some mill worms. I'd call first. It's a Ma and Pa garage operation.

Invicta, it must have been me chatting with you. Glad you didn't get wet. Perhaps we can get on the ice together. Ill show you what you've been missing by not using a flasher.

Fished the upper lake from 9 till 2:30. SLOW! Managed 2 browns and 2 perch. Marked very few fish. Still it was great to be finally on the ice.

Also, I was told that even though Mamoth was filling back up due to the earlier melt off, that both Mamoth & Lower Twin are still being drawn down, which could result in the water level being lower than the ice. That could result in a very dangerous condition.Should go with-out saying, but,be VERY careful when fishing these lakes.  Also I doubt if the road down to the upper lake will be open to-day or tommorow.  sam

Has anyone gotten walleye from Lower Twin Lake in any season? I've heard they are in there, just difficult to get. If they are there, does anyone have any suggections for getting them through the ice? I don't want anybodies honey hole, just basic guidelines like depth, etc... . Thanks in advance!

Several years ago I was fishing from a boat on the wooded side of Lower lake in the channel using live fatheads when I hooked into something large. I thought immediately of Carp but the fish did not run fast and they do not usually hit minnows. The water was a bit murky but I got the fish to the surface about 15b feet from the boat and the line snapped as it turned sideways for a dive. The colour was a shiny bronze with small scales. Did not see the head, just the mid body which was the thickness  of a medium carp….I have always suspected it was one of the long rumoured Walleye….

Sounds like a carp...but could it be maybe an overgrown goldfish or koi someone put in the lake long ago?
