Tradition continues

It's become a tradition for my wife and I to spend New Year's on the river.  The past three
Jan 1's  have been off the charts, and some of the luckiest fishing of their respective  years. This one broke the trend, but only in the luck part. As far as enjoyment goes, it was as good as it gets. On the big eve day  the river wasn't crowded, as it wasn't today either, with the exception of the LFZ.  I  saw  zero light colored fish, and  they were in the spots you'd expect to find them in cold water.  Pretty specific.  I stuck with the fly rod, and although I caught less fish than I suppose I could of , I enjoyed the hell out the ones I did get.
I asked all the locals I could find about the school and they all had no idea it was sold and basically called bs on the rumors of a sale.  I did hear Barclay put in a low bid, but once again,  that may be further fertilizer.   The" for sale or lease" sign is still up.   I won't go back unless we have a big water event, and that may be awhile. Hey, I love these fish, but they're pretty beat up and I hope they get a break.  I hope all had a great New Years.  I look forward to seeing some friends on the river in the coming year.

Awesome Charlie, glad you got into them and had a little makin' memories time with your wife.   May go up this weekend if there is no ice and it's not too cold.

Happy New Year Charlie, good to see you had a GREAT time on the river with your wife and the solitude.I'll be looking forward to spending some time with you in 2013!
I'm out west with the family in Ohio and only got out one time but will probably try for some Ohio steel the next few days. It's supposed to warm up to 30 F tomorrow,it's 16F today and cloudy.Of course next week when I'll be heading home it's going to get in the mid to high 30's.
Will post a report at end of trip.
