My fishing report 12/27-12/30

I have been getting my arse handed to me!  I have not hooked one darn steelhead.  I have fished mostly one spot below Altmar and just upriver of Rt48.  Several other fisherman have been within eyesight as well as several driftboats.  No one hooked up where I was.  I stayed out for 2-3 hours each day.  Yesterday, I gave in to the dark side and went to "the kill zone" in Altmar.  Although I saw several fish hooked, 50% of them where fowled.
My thoughts are 1) I wish I had more time to "pay my dues" on the SR, but I don't, 2) if you know where the fish congregate and put a fly right on their nose, they MAY open their mouth.

I used stoneflies, zonkers, and eggs, dead-drifted under a strike indicator.  I fished the "winter lies."  I donated enough flies to the rocks to know that I was fishing deep enough.

The water is cold.  Speaking to a local fly shop, I was told the Rez is not full and therefore the water coming out of it got cold really fast (a deeper reservoir would have stayed warmer longer).  Consequently, the fishes' metabolism slowed down just as quickly.

None the less, I had a fantastic time and also got to XX ski at Tug Hill and Winona SP.  The scenery was spectacular!

    Thanks for the report.
Sorry the fishing wasn't better for you.
Last I heard the rez is just about full now.
Winter fish are logy and a cold snap can make it pretty frustrating.
Hope ut turns around for you.
