Home Again !!!

sorry folks , this is a non SR report but it was an AWESOME day to be alive :)
we had an absolute BLAST with pike and perch all day long.. almost ran out of bait..
the ice was so thick there were snow machines all over the lake and I would have felt safe taking my truck out there.. as you can see though the snow was DEEP !! easily 18" of deep snow which made chasing those flags a good work out..

Now that the ice is here it will be very difficult to pull me away.. I love the open water fishing but the Ice only lasts so long..
Good luck to all you fishers out there and Happy New Year..
I'll be on the ICE :)

HT thanks for the  pics. Although the ice does not appeal to me "quite" as much as it does to you  I am ready to go out .   I got a new 8 " auger and although my poles and tip ups are old.   They are strung with new line and ready.  I even just bought a sled today to pull it  all out.   I tend to go when it is fairly nice and hit Sackets, Henderson, Lakeview and maybe Sandy pond.   Perch is my target  as that's what my wife likes

HT,I was thinking of you when this COLD set in,good to hear that you are having fun out there but you know I'm a fair weather fisher!
I'm out west and went out Friday to see some old haunts on Elk Creek.Used the noodle rod and single eggs under a float.Caught two first thing and thought it was gonna be a banner day, then nothing for the rest of day.Tried using the breathables and my feet turned to bricks and I packed it in at 3 pm.If I fish tomorrow I'll be wearing the heavy neo's with the insulated boot. The rest of the week after Monday it's getting frigid and to me that is not fun!

Phish photos?  I must admit I have never done the hard water hustle.  Looks like it is a blast running from hole to hole.
The closest I ever came to ice fishing was a few years back while on patrol.  I pulled my patrol vehicle into a snow covered parking lot to check on a fellow with all the paraphenalia.  He was busily cranking away with his hand auger as I pulled along side.  I asked him if he had had any luck.  He, of course, said "no, I'm having trouble drilling through the ice."  I didn't have the heart to tell him he wasn't on the lake.

I guess I won't put up any river reports, don't belong on this site.
You're dedicated, HT.  Long drive.  I just picked up another private lake to fish right  out the door. I'll start fishing late afternoons end of this week .   I'm off for my annual  New Year's  in Altmar.   Have a good one guys.

I get to ride my friends excellent   AC next weekend, he just bought a new Polaris so I get the other anytime I wish.   , hopefully up Mt. Equinox in Vt.-  40 mile round trip and 2500 foot gain in elevation.   The ride up the ledges at the top gets your heart beating.  Have a blast, John!

nice pics HT. I'm thinking about doing a little EYE fishing through the ice this year. Will be my first time trying this, but they have been catching some nice ones and I want to get in on the action.

Tough ride into that lake because of the poor road, but plenty of dink perch/pike.  What no tiger muskies???  Hopefully our Railroader Weekend will result in some nice tiger muskies.  Hopefully we won't have to deal with all that snow and wind.

another great 2 full days on the ice..
this time we stayed local to avoid all the heavy snow in the north country..
good solid snow free black ice.. yesterday the lake we fished had about 5" , today a good 6"..
Plenty of fat perch went under the knife ..

Gas auger .. Nah, haven't used my ole Jiffy -30 since I bought a Nils.. Those things make cutting ice a piece of cake..

    P.S.
sorry ed, no putts for me..

H.T. you are so right about the Nils.  Not that much effort for a good cut.  Glad to see you back at it.  Couldn't get out yesterday as I had an 16/18 yrs old girl's volleyball tournament at Saratoga Rec.  Great day, nice kids, coaches, officials and fans.
Probably get out Tuesday on Lake Lonely and Wednesday with the Dynamic Trio up North.
