Nice ice making weather

Looking at the forecast on accuweather it looks good for ice making.  Maybe we will get to pound the hard water this year

God, I hope so. Where do you ice fish?

I was just saying the same thing yesterday. I'm really hoping the forecast holds true, I would like to be able to get my boys out on the ice with me this year. My oldest (5yrs) has been begging to go for the last two years, but last season there was just no safe ice close enough to take him. Hopfully we'll have better ice and with him being a little older & better able to handle a longer trip we can get out and slam some pannies on the hard water!

    Tight lines & God bless.

Cross creek, pymatuning, are the main lakes and then a few little local ponds for panfish

Dont think so....over the weekend the wind will be too strong for much icing and temps up to mid 30s...then followed by high 30s low 40s rest of the week...with sunshine....skim at best...

Couple years ago I was fishing on 5 inches of ice the day after Christmas.   Last year I didn't get out at all.  Hope the colder weather next week is the start of a trend and we get out on the ice soon.

Of course it is beyond me what fun there is freezing on ice, through a little hole...often very suspect in safety around these parts....when you get exactly the same fish as you would by comfortably fishing the liquid...like happened last year????!!!!....

DNJ500, I completely agree with you. I'd rather have nice weather like last year although I didn't fish last winter. just got back into it after a long time away. I'm not knocking anyone's fun. it just isn't my cup of tea. I'm a big dude and I wouldn't go on the ice if it were 5 feet thick let alone 5 inches. I've heard stories that many years ago, people would drive old junk cars out on the ice at Lake Erie. Fish out of them all winter then let them sink in the spring. Don't know if it is true but how about that for polluting the waters.

We have to get ice this year. FishUSA had a great sale on gear I couldn't pass up. I hope mother nature is a member of this board and will see it in her frozen female heart to provide some ice for us all. Even if it's just for a few weeks.

looks like monday is the warmest day in the forecast with a high of 40 degrees.  by next week the high temps are only in the upper 20s.  i don't think we will be ice fishing very soon but i'm optimistic that we will get some good hard water this winter.  maybe i'll get my auger blades sharpened just in case.

i think the smaller lakes will be good by the last week in January.  Bigger lakes like pymi wont be till feb if the weather stays cold.  High point will always be the first

Acme Dam looked to be about 99% covered with skim ice 4 days ago. I haven't been past any other lakes though. With the night and day time temps we've been having here lately. It certainly won't be very long before it's safe to get out there. Currently, we're just barely in the double digits and it's not supposed to get much warmer than that for us today. I think I might start getting the sled together while I have the time.
