Streamer advice

I'm tying some zonkers for the first time and am assuming the next time I can come east to Erie to fish, the streams will be low and clear.  My question is this:  Do you think its preferable to add weight to the fly (small bead head or lead wire) or to add weight to the line (shot or lead wrap)?  Thanks for any insights.

For Erie trib fishing and similar, I like to incorporate as much weight as is possible into the fly. Any weight on the line is a detriment to casting, handling, sensitivity, and (usually) line breaking strength.  The more weight you put in the fly, the less of that bad stuff is going on.

if you decide to tie some without weight use a different shade of thread so you can tell them apart.
a bead doesn't weight the streamer that much unless it is tungsten.

I tend to prefer to just put weight on the line(personal preference), but I agree if your fishing very low conditions putting the weight in the fly would be better.

There's been times when I've actually seen the fish inspect split shot.
