12/13/12

Here is the latest and not so greatest report from today.   Got up to the LFZ at 8:00   The whole church side was empty except for me and 4 other guys and  2 were in the prime spot all the way up on the end of the rocks and 2 in front of the hemlocks.  The other side had a few folks , but nothing big.    I fished in the upper 3rd of the wall.    It was slower than my wife in a shoe store.  Stayed until 1100   and only saw 1 fish on the entire time I was there as far as I could see.
Getting sparked by charlie's thread I had packed my spinning rod and walked up to behind the school,  I think it's called the barrel,   and I fished the school side stayed there until 100   there was a short spurt where some bottom bouncers across from me hooked up and landed a  few and I could also see some other sporadic hook ups here and there.   I managed 1 quick hook up on a pink egg sac under a float.   Got sick of casting and reeling and I really should have went on the other side due to the trees so I trudged back to the LFZ.  There were more hook ups in the PM and I saw a FEW fish taken especially by the guys on the bend.  Managed no hook ups either.  Today was a day where I did not feel I had my A game  and had no mojo  so I left at around 230 or so to get home to get some work done before it got dark.

My dad picked up a blower for the back of the tractor that needed some work  so  I managed to get the chain of it as I need to take a link or 2 out, free up the chute and fix that and get in and tighten a hose clamp that was dripping a bit of coolant.   Left the chain soaking in oil to free it up.

Still seems pretty slow on the fishing end ,  but ,   of the fish I saw taken, about 6,   3 were pretty silver and fresh so there are new fish coming in.

Maybe tomorrow or saturday we'll see.

Thanks for the report, Clint.  I imagine a few are trickling in, but, still not the most encouraging signs. Of course if there were those.... tons of people would have been showing up.   If you try the other side of the barrel, the seam is a bit out towards the middle. It's a shallow shelf right in front of you. You wade out about 10-15'' and cast 40'.  Perfect for a float, bad for the fly rod.    Same crap when I was in the CP. Fish were holding on the   bend.   Very few elsewhere.   Good luck if you go . It's hard to feel you have Mojo when you aren't hooking up. Just the way it is.

Yea but still you came back with a nice report and hopefully enjoyed a nice day out.. It was a pretty sweet one here , even while I was stuck in a back hoe most of it..
    Anyway,
Really the only thing I may suggest is scrapping those spots for awhile..
You seem to get out on a regular basis and are close so try some new spots.. Maybe Ellis area ? or something between DSR and 81..
pick some confidence deep holding water and pick it apart..
I'm sure you may find less people and you seen some fresh fish in Altmar..
Just a suggestion and I know I'm usually a go to spot guy but I'm also 180 miles away..lol..

Either way ENJOY and keep us dreamers dreaming of that 1 hook-up..
    Good Report..

HT I hear you about the new spots.   It's like I know there are fish there and am just itching for that hook up.   I have actually hit more new water this year than last.  Today was actually the first day (other than with Charlie) I have fished at the barrel and  I have been hitting the staircase/long bridge this year a bit.    Been thinking about behind the paper mill in that hole or walking down trout brook  and hitting some holes between TB and down

Bob,I could not tell as they were across the river,  I know at least one was very bright, because the folks across were commenting on how fresh it was.
