Yough tailrace

Do they still catch walleye at the tailrace? We used to go there 25-30 years ago around now thru the close of the season and bang them. Saw the biggest one I ever saw caught right next to the wall where the water used to shoot out before it was changed to the way it is now.

Ref, I remember those days. We would get there just before dark and cast blue/silver Rebels from the rocks by the parking lot. Caught a lot there. I also remember hiking up and around to the other side so we could cast right into the fast water coming out of the opening. The whole area seems to have changed.

Yeah Red it has changed alot I went there a few times this past season and I was surprised how different it is. We would do the same go in the evening and fish all night sometimes. That eye I saw caught was 30+ in. and at least 13lb if not bigger...it was so fat.

I remember getting there early in the morning one time and my father talked to a guy who was just leaving. He told us to go look at the stringer in the stream. This guy had two 20"+ walleye and the biggest non-steelhead trout I had ever seen. He was the one who told us to hike up around to the other side. We would wade out to the right of the handicap ramp and catch all kinds of species in minnows.

I was there today. 1 short walleye and tons of small trout, I couldnt keep them off the hook. The state or someone must have just stocked a bunch of small brook trout. The trout were midging on the surface all day.

My last two trips have been very bad. One fish hooked and lost the first time. And 0 fish hooked the last time. I have seen it very good last winter. Some very fat bows and nice browns were caught and released in mid-winter. Do these fish come from down-stream when the water temp changes? Maybe I was too early. I'll be back to see very soon. Love it when the crowd is gone. Warning; watch out for thieves. I learned the hard way about a unattended rod.
