Special Regs doe down

It was a exciting night filled with movement as soon as I got into my stand in a small woodlot outside of Pittsburgh. The deer were on the move tonight. I had two does come by me at 4:45 but could not get the video camera lined up in time.

Twenty minutes later, three more passed by out of range, then I could hear deer headed my way through the thick honeysuckle that is so prevelant around here. When I saw  two sets of legs headed my way, the camera was swung in position and I strained to see if the legs were those of bucks or does.
Two big slick heads popped into view in a open area that afforded great video and shooting lanes under two large dropping oak trees. With the video rolling well into two minutes of footage the lead doe looked up and settled her eyes into mine. I knew it was now or never.

Crosshair behind the shoulder, aiming for the far leg, safety off on the TenPoint Carbon Elite and thunk, a Easton Full Metal Jacket tipped with a ABC Sonic streaked through its chest with that hollow thunk we all like to hear as the Lumenok stared back at me from the newly turned up earth.

With some long breaths and some reflection I climbed down after 20 minutes to take up the trail. I heard her crash so my pace was brisk. The arrow was missing all of the Bohning Blazers put covered in bright crimson blood.

She was pumping out both sides on her path of flight.

After 60 yards of a easy to follow trail, I found my early season doe piled up. She was dry which is unusual for this area. I was actually pleased to see that I would always rather shoot a dry doe. With only 4 packs of ground meat left in the deep freezer from last year, it will be nice to see some fresh venison added.

Wishing all of my fellow hunters a successful season no matter what your goals may be.
