Sat Sun Mon report
Got in the wee hours of Sat the 29 th and slept in got to area well above Tressel midday and in 2 hours 6 fish buzzed up. The guys had the bend above Tressel cut off from bank to bank. Went back to the house and did chores. CROWDS and the Follies are ON. Sunday wend down below 2A a ways amid large crowds. LOTS of fish moving through constantly for hours as well as many hanging out in pools and on beds. The crowd thinned considerably in the PM as weekenders went home. VERY aggresive fish went along with the crowd going down to bout 1/3 of what it was at noon. Prior some had become a bit line shy. Monday was one of those precious days never to be forgotten. Got to the 2A pool bout 11 AM after meeting a carpenter at my place for a bit in the AM. The entire lower half of the 2A pool had NOT one other fisherman besides me and the tail was LOADED with aggressive fish. On the side I was on they first started coming in 6s and later by the dozen and later in the 20s. They never stopped coming into the pool and the males were feisty as all heck what with chasing each other and charging each other and snapping at flies regularly. Later I moved down around the bend and it was the same- fish all over the place and very few other guys. One of those few and far between days. Even helped a Soldier from Drum get his first King after he had fallen and broke his new rod. Today was dreary and chilly and misty and I bugged out-- NEXT WEEK---

So I'm standing in the ankle deep water and a guy walks by behind me--I recognize him but dont know where from. Ask if he's on the forum cause I seem to have seen his photo someplace and he chuckles and says hes the record holder for the largest King- a male from bout 20 yrs ago in the DSR and his photo is here and there. Had a great story bout the fish too- seems it got so big -well into the 40s- cause biologists said it was naturally sterile and had lived to the ripe old age of bout 5 yrs. What a place !!!

THAT will be when we need a few days of big water--lol. The decent rain the other night actually put the water up a few inches on Monday. Not from the depleted Res. of course but from local runoff. Every little bit helps. Hey -the Kings I saw were never running hard- just kinda plodding along like Kings do heading up. Some of the Females were flipping over and doin their twitchy thing even when there was no bed whatsoever visible- guess it was just their time-- this was seen a number of times. Perhaps they had been holding out down river for extra time cause of the temps and levels ???

Great report rt: Last week 2a looked insane on a Monday & Tues. Your experience sounds as familiar as a crowded zone last week. But the fish don't bite. Some reason I heard today was Epic , from a senior board member , shoulder to shoulder. Man do I so wish I was there at o'dark thirty today. Thursday has me re thinking salmon 2112

Not late this week Fish but next week late with Wifey for Golf and Fishin., Nother time. Tuna - Had a foul hook with a number 8 fly and afterwards got HIT a coupla of times- tug tug tug GREAT- couldnt hook up. Bout 20 mins later dopy decided to check the knot on the fly. The thin wire hook was broke off at the bend- musta been when I popped it off the foul. Was fun though and since there was no more fouling or lining I had certainly been BIT. Couldnt a been Kings though- CHUBS Tuna- The Kings I saw yesterday were a nice mix of fairly fresh ones and some turning darker- no Zombies at all.- Seemed to me the fresh were running a bit stronger and the darker were starting to get the most territorial. That with the consistent DSR reports tells me there may well be much more to come- but it will get stinky.

Ah rt , we all know these fish don't bite, they don't eat and the trout are rainhead cookie cutters. 2 days ago it was about how much weight, you just said it was no point on the hook.. Foul I say, FOUL !! We in each our own minds are only salmon river snaggers. I vote the only way to catch a lake run fish is by hand line only , no weight, artificial flies only with no points.

Why bother with the line. Just go out to the needle spot in the run, put the arm in the water, hand facing downstream, and let the fish run right up your arm. cajun noodler style. No worry about getting pulled under the river bank, just grab the gills from the inside and fling them to shore! L13

Hey Tuna- If was seein what I thought I was seein and believin what some were sayin those 'cookies' might be a tad larger this year. Time will tell. On the flip side the Hos were beautiful but NOT the biguns of a coupla years back. Hey-- was helpin some guy by tailing his fish for him- took a good look and saw no hooks beside his and the tailing went well. Holding the fishie in a few inches of water -I never remove them from the water-thats up to him- the fish took a big flip and buried an black #1 in my ring finger on my other hand. Hadnt seen the hook in the dorsal fin- second flip removed said hookie from said fingie -a good thing cause I get all scardie cat bout that stuff when doin it on my own-result, blood all freakin day long all over all my nice gear. Careful folks its a war out there. Recalling recent posts thats the second 'purple fishie' earned by Forum members this year.

Ouch. I collected a good dozen flies yesterday. I expected to have a shark get me with teeth. I lost plenty flies myself on intentional snaps and some freight trains that dropped over a small falls or ran around rocks. Both Jack and I had the missing hook thing happen. It's funny. I hope the steel are in good shape this year and the earlier reports of skinny, malnourished lake fish were an anomaly. Come an get it!!!! Plenty of eggs to fatten up the trout! And here's another rain dance for some higher water levels. Nice job helping out, Trev. Hope you have more banner days coming up.

If it was just fishin and catchin fish all the time it wouldnt be any fun- lol I got more laughs this year watching guys trying to net fish for their friend. WHAT on Gods little green earth are some of those guys thinking. They commonly chase half played out fish all over the river up and down- back and forth- taking stabs at them with a freakin net big enough to hold a Buffalo. And they still miss and break off the fishies. Its the best hoot on the river.
