Most of the Tectan is out of stock...waiting for more to come in....and I have tried locating it elsewhere with very little luck.  The stuff is made in Germany and I'm trying to get a supplier located....Not looking too good.  Great line.

10'6" Fenwick with Shimano Stradic spooled with 4# Seagur. I've never used a leader and never plan to.

The only reason that I like a leader is because I jig a lot, and if I don't use a swivel, I get major line twist. If I'm just floating bait, I don't use a leader either.

Don't overthink it bud. Like I said, I went up with a bass rod and 6# Trilene XL and caught lots of fish. If at all possible, get a noodle rod. Load it with your favorite 4# mono or flouro (or 4# dia. equivalent) and go catch some fish. Use a palomar knot and cut your tag end really close to the knot. Make sure you moisten your line before you cinch your knot. Check your line for abrasions or over stretch after every hookup. You may need to cut 4-6ft of line off once in a while. Take your cut off line with you when you leave. Have fun.

If you are gonna use a leader, use 6# for backing and use a 4-6ft leader of 4# flouro or mono. Doesn't matter what brand you use for backing. A steelhead isn't going to break even the junkiest 6#.  Use good stuff for your leader.

You've never caught a steelie before?
