Columbus Day Weekend

So, it looks like i can get up there this year, it will most likely be Columbus Day Weekend. How much of a madhouse are we talking about? Is the entire river littered with fishermen? If not, how far up can i go to have a chance at a fish and be able to breathe?

i don't think you would hit big crowds in the lfz and beaver brooke, other than that wear your big red nose, and bow tie to fit in with all the other clowns packed in there like they are riding in one of those funny little cars.....it is going to be a zoo...with all the internet buzz about the great run, and seeing 20+ lurkers on this board most of the time plus the ones on the other boards....it should be interesting

I fished Columbus day one time......never again!
This year is going to be ugly with the low water, big run,and the DEC sitting in Pondersa eating wings.

i was going to take a pic at the tressel today but there was NO PLACE to park.
it might get a little crowded for the holiday.

If you do not have a room, plan on driving at least to Oswego or Watertown, and maybe a little further, like down to North Syracuse, to get one.

Funny thing is with all the reports and real numbers of fishermen the Port Lodge Motel has had vacencies every time I have gone up.
Must be all day trippers or misers like me saving money by sleeping in tents.

They looked pretty full when I went by on Thuirsday, and for the three day weekend, I woudl not count on finding anything that close.  Columbus Day has alweays been more crowded than any other early weekend.

With gun season now open for the youngsters this Columbus Day weekend in NY it may take some of the pressure off the river, especially since its buck or doe.

I'm planning a kayak trip from  Altmar to Pineville Sat. morning. Anybody have any advice?   Somebody suggested full body armor, kevlar helmet with a bulletproof  face shield and a riot gun. I just want to look at the leaves. Isn't this a multi-use river?

Maybe I can borrow the ballistic shield or armored personnel carrier from my former employer.

Count me in at o'dark thirty. Got a 1 million watt head lamp with a red port side bow light for the yak.
The crickets should be full song. Multi use indeed.
