the best fishing knot

I remember tieing my eyehooks using the seven to nine turn clinch knot using 12lb mono and the big monster kings just pulling that knot apart. After a few too many failed clinch knots , after that I learned the improved clinch knot that works pretty good. Recently learned the Davy knot and a couple other easy to tie knots that are suppose to be stronger (over 90% knot strenght as opposed to the 60% knot strenght of the improved clinch knot. Anybody care to share what knots the use and why? I like using the Davy because for me, it is easy to tie, very small, strong and easier to tie than a Palomar

I actually used six turns too and used the clinch for decades .. over that time, I tried many mono and know exactly what you mean as far as wetting and cinching it tight as with taking care of tying any knot. I than tried the extra turns but experienced the clinch pulling apart (with big fish) ..the last time I used the clinch was after it pulled apart out of the eyehook  when I ripped into an old chinook at the town pool using spinning gear . That is when I adopted the improved and noticed a considerable difference in knot strenght. Yet, recently read about easier to tie smaller  knots  that are far less bulkier than any clinch or improved clinch.. better knot strenght according to what I read up on.. also easier on the tippet because the knot  requires Less fumbling between the fingers..meaning less line twists, stretching and kinks after you cinch these easier to tie knots.  But yes all knots should be cinched wet and with care. try the Davy knot.. see a demo on youtube.. also "the best knot" another easy knot I found to be reliable.

Me too, always twisted the line instead of the hook.. my gosh guy, was just on youtube watching a drmo on knot strenght.. also just learned the " Double Davy knot" this knot is so easy and fast to tie.. very small and test strenght was the strongest over the  regular Davy knot or  the  harder to tie orvis knot ..  still even, the orvis knot was second or third strongest and both clinch and improved clinch were last place in both strenght / ease to tie / and certainly bulkier than any of the other knots I mentioned. GL, hope you at give them a try, I think you will be impressed, anybosy reading this too that doesn't know these simpleknots yet.. cheers

Clint, the double is just as simple, i wonder if it is okay to share the link on youtube.. the guy did a strenght test using six famous knots and the Double Davy is the winner. Although slightly bulkier than the standard Davy knot, is was the stronhest knot in his tug of war tests he  claims he repeated in his test demonstration. youtube flyspoke.. i'll bb to see if I can paste the link.

Try the Polymer knot.  Real easy to tie and doubles the line on the eyehook.

yes, palomar knot is good knot but not for tiny midges and other tiny flies.. double threaded kink through small eye hook can compromise any leader tippet and knot strenght too.. The double Davy still wins as being the easiest to tie and quickest and over 90% knot strenght  ..try tug a war test even with the palomar, double Davy wins all the time ,,yes pa, always spittle to lube any mono line before cinching a knot.

Yeah man, try using the "Double Davy" It is such a quick strong simple knot

Palomar  .....  we use it on all our offshore  trolling rigs  for tuna and marlin...should be good enough for mudd sharkz
