Walleye Head Boats

Several people have asked me about what it's like chartering a head boat for walleye on Erie. I've never done it, not for walleye, just perch. Does anybody have experience with this? Also, details please! What is the best time to go, can you recommend anybody in particular, the best tactics that you have found, etc... . I realize things can change at any moment. All I'm asking for is in your experience. Thanks in advance to all!

Are you talking about on the western basin on the reefs in the spring?  That's the only place that I know of that walleye head boats operate on Erie.

Me too. I've only heard of head boats for walleye in Ohio. There are a few that go out of Port Clinton. I've done it before. It's a lot of fun. Bottom bouncers and Erie Dearies. Never go deeper than 25', and usually shallower.

The only walleye headboats in Erie are in Port Clinton. There are 3 different companies.Fishermans Wharf has 3 boats, Drawbridge marina has 3 boats , and Sassy sals has 2 boats. In my opinion Fishermans Wharf is by far the best. They are done walleye fishing for the year I believe, Now they are primarily perch fishing for the rest of the year. They start in April, jig fishing until the water warms up to 65-70 degrees then gold casting harnesses with crawlers are the ticket .

+1. Well worth it if you can stand the cold and rough water.
