So you just run the line through the bead, then tie an overhand knot to hold it in place? Then tie the hook onto the tag end? Thanks for posting the picture.

Personally, I think this is the only way a pin is effective in the spring time.  When the fish are on the gravel, I just hold the line in my left hand, keep the tip low, and allow about 10-15 inches of line out.  I try to swing the bead next to the fishes mouth and then lift up, getting the hook stuck the drivin her home for the win.  I just continue the swing and fight the fish for about 3-5 seconds.

IMO if the fish it not eating the actual hook with whatever you have on that hook it should be illegal but its not. So if you enjoy fishing this method (posted above) so be it and have fun.

The Lord has blessed us all today... It's just that he has been particularly good to me.

That is the whole thing.  No bait.  No swivel.  Most people jam a toothpick in the bead hole and break it off to hold the bead in place.
 
IMO it is glorified snagging.  Very popular in Alaska.  I will be there in 10 days, will not use a bead and will catch fish.  At least I hope I will.  haha.

Ok, so the fish don't actually bite a baited hook here? They bite the bead and take the hook unknowingly or people use the highly visible bead to guide the hook into the fish's mouth. In neither case does the fish bite the hook, right?
 
Anyone ever use this rig with bait on the hook?

You use the bead to guide the hook right into the fishes mouth.  Even if they ain't bitin, your catchin.

large white wolly buggers with a nymph dropper are much bedder for that ...BECUZZZ it's easier to see at much greater distances and  doubles your chances for a hOOk-up
If the big bugger hook misses, the nymph will pierce

a butterfly knife is how I got on "the list" in British Columbia
everytime i go there they offer a nice welcome committee and check my bags

everytime i go there they offer a nice welcome committee and check my bags
