8-28 river report

Well myself and friend took out the dusty salmon rods and gave it a whirl. We fished from the rock&roll monument down thru to the black hole. Saw a total of four live fish and about 12 dead ones. No hookups for us today. Did learn some new spots and one pain the butt spot, there's half an oak tree laying out quite a ways into the water at the monument. That should make for landing/chaseing fish real interesting in that area The good news is that even though it was a throw away trip, better days are ahead. Just hope we get water or its gonna be a blood bath.

I probably won't make it up this year due to unexpected expenses concerning my son's medical condition, but I still love to read about it and dream. Someday, this dream will come true.

Hope things work out for the best Slab--
Hey Hook-  reported some guys bugged out a day or so early who were fishing even lower than you were- its still August slowwwww- All bout expectations right now.
The live feed of the Needle still doesnt show much if any fishing action but its just around the corner I'd bet. One good push will change the river.

Did see one in the needle but it took off back to the town pool. August trips are always a gamble. Had some awesome ones in the past, also alot just like this last one. Oh well.
Hey Slab I wish you and your son the best of luck and the best outcome ever. Maybe someone in Pa. Can help you out even if its just for a day or two, seem to have quite few guys from there on here. Don't give up buddy.

All the best slab with your son and family.

But we are in desperate need for some rain. I heard from my grandfather that they refused to let water out for the kayakers and there's some doubt about if they will even let it out for the early season run.

I check the height of the river behind my house everyday and its still pretty low, especially around the short bridge before the ball park. If we dont get any rain soon I'm thinking its gonna be a slaughterhouse for the snaggers to the point where they might not get past the ball park.

on a good day the ballpark looks like a bunch of bears waiting for the salmon to swim up so they can snatch them.......if we don't get some rain, well they could get some interesting video for "the run"

Yeah the water situation is pretty bad. A guy i know whos been boating sandy pond since the seventies is saying that hes seeing land where hes never seen it before...north sandy is like a puddle right now...the stagnant shallow areas in the salmon river are full of green sludge...yeah, its bad...

Thanks guyys. I'll take all of the prayers I can get. I posted about my son's illness on the PA Off-topic board. I set up collection cans at work and one of my coworkers stole money out of it.

THEN, just when I had lost all faith in humanity, a gentleman that I have never met set up an auction on the PA Off-Topic board (donations for Gregory) and is auctioning his artistic flies for me. He is going to donate the proceeds to my son's medical care. This guy is a real artist. Anyway, as kind and generous as everyone has been on this site, they have restored my faith in people. I even have folks sending private donations through this site. For a long time I've been of the opinion that fishermen are the best class of people in the world. I never asked for help. People saw a need and just stepped up. God bless them.

Best wishes and prayers to you and your family Slab. Looks like a suicide trip one day this weekend to drop off forgotten items to my son at school in Oswego. Will give report after returning. Probably target smallies but may get lucky.

    Hey slab

Would you mind posting a link if possible for the artistic flies to benefit your son. I'm starting a collection of flies to put up in my game room and wouldn't mind buying a few to help benefit your son.

Gladly Duke. And thank you very much. Thank all of you for your support and your prayers. And yes Dime, it is Steely! He is a true artist. Here's the link. Please check it out and share it wherever you can. I need to raise as much as I can before October 15th so I can take him to his Dr. appt.

If you think it is appropriate, please post it as a seperate thread in the NY boards somewhere, and just link it to the original thread. It's awfully humbling to ask for help, to look at your son and admit that Daddy can't do it all himself, that Daddy can't fix it and he needs help. "Humble" literally means, "close to the ground." However, I can honestly say that I have not been close to the ground long because the other fishermen on this site found it within their hearts to lift me up onto their shoulders. Thank you guys. My son thanks you.
