Allegheny river Oakmont, Kiski, Hamar area???

I work with a guy whose 12 year old loves to fish however he lives far away from my local spots and his dad isnt an exp fisherman. I asked him where the Allegheny was close to him and he isnt too far from Kiski, Harmar, and Oakmont. Can anyone help me out and give him some access to the river and go to bait etc.? It would be highly appreciated! Always nice to see a kid happy while fishing.

how about deer lakes;  stocked in spring and fall with trout. pan fish rest of the year and may be an occassional bass.  also feeder creeks into the allegheny.   check pa fish commission site also for fishing areas by counties andhe can see what may be close to him.  best of luck

+1 on Deer Lakes, especially in the fall.  Deer Lakes is about as easy as fishing gets for an inexperienced dad looking to take a kid fishing.

Very small crowds after the trout frenzy dies down in the spring.  Weeds seem to not be so bad the past couple of years, and should be dying down by now.  Last fall they put in a lot of feisty, good size browns.  Gotta wait till October for the next trout stocking, but there are plenty of 10-14" bass and a few bigger in the lower two lakes there (never fished the upper lake there).  Plus all the bluegills you can stand.  Decent populations of bullheads and some channel cats too.  My son loves fishing there.

if your on old rt 28 just past the turnpike bridge is lock 3 bait and tackle. its right beside the river. if you double back to the pfbc boat launch is on your left you can fish were deer creek dumps into the river. you never know what you may catch there. there is also places between lock 3 and the boat launch I am not sure about access but im sure lock 3 bait can tell you

+ 1 on Lock 3 bait and tackle ...best bait shop around that way in my opinion. Harmar area has a few great places to fish...the opening of the old "mine" area, deer creek outflow is a great spot for Largemouth, smallmouth, walleye and even the occassional musky. Or you could always fish the dam area off the wall or rocks!....good luck!

    Got Walleye???
