Knot suggestions

Have always used  surgeons knots from   my fly line to a short 20 lb section of leader then a surgeons on the tail of the short heavy leader to a surgeons on the longer lighter leader  to a clinch at the fly. Use surgeons again if i choose to downsize the leader strength down the line - usually about 2 or 3 feet from the fly. Have used 2 clinches there too but then loose some of the main leader at every break off.
I find them easy to use and if one breaks I dont usually loose the whole thing and have to retie all the way back up the line.
Over time have read a lot about other forms of attaching lines to each other--- Any suggestions for improvements that are easy to tie stream side without the old eyes needing magnifying glasses. As it is can hardly get a light leader through a flys eye some days..lol

Nail knot from fly line to leader. ALWAYS !
Double surgeons from leader to leaders or to tippet. Improved clinch from tippet to fly.
Honestly a blood knot in place of a double surgeons is stronger.

I use an Albright knot for making leaders.

I use 20# red amnesia about 8 inches from fly line  and end it in a surgeons loop and use loop to loop connection for Amnesia to leader. I connect the fly line  to the amnesia with a nail, but I cannot for the life of me do it quickly or efficiently so I do it at home and it takes me a while.   That way I can change leaders with the loop to loop and not mess with the nail knot until I replace the amnesia (usually every other trip or so)   For steel I use a barrel swivel before the tippet so the knot usually breaks there and that's all I have to replace.   Not done much salmon on the fly but I will probably run a straight 15lb lb leader split with a barrel  a few feet up for the same effect

There are some quick leader to tippet knots-look up the forcep knot. I just use my fingers- takes me longer to take out the tippet spool  than to tie it on. For salmon and steel, I just use a barrel swivel like Clint. For connecting flies and swivels,  I use the Pitzen knot , also called the  16-20 loop. 100% strength and very quick and easy to tie with cold hands.

Clint that is a great knot site
    I retort:
If you have a loop fly line then loop to loop tapered leader. Once the tippet end breaks down then a blood / dbl surgeons to add more tippet.

No loop fly line: nail knot 30 lb amnesia to fly line/ perfection loop amnesia to same leader / built or bought. All sections beyond are blood/ dbl surgeons.

For salmon I rarely use a swivel. Steelhead , yes
