Ed, When you kill that turtle, don't shoot it ,just cut off the head, then leave the head outside somewhere so that the flys & maggots can clean it off. Then when it is dry you can shellac it. It makes a intresting trophy as it almost looks like it did when alive. What did you think of the leeches on it? sam

Most of the bigger, older turtles that we caught, especialy the moss covered ones that were caught out of lakes or swamps, had lots of leeches under thier arm pits & between the neck & shell & tail & shell.Sometimes the leeches would be in golf ball sized groups. I think that that is the reason the snappers are so nasty. lol btw when we would get out of the water we would always check ourself for any leeches stuck on us. I think that is one reason the old timers used to scald the turtles before cleaning them. That was to kill any leeches that were on the turtles. Then they would use a stiff brush to clean the skin before cutting it up. The skin would come out white like chicken skin. sam

I hear of alot of people using wire leaders to connect the hook and the rope does any of you guys know more about this? I went put on wire leader i have for musky fishing and i ripped it right off lol. I'm having alot of trouble running my nylon rope throug the eye of the hook so i was going to try the wire method if anyone has any input. Thanks alot, Ed
