New waders????
This is season 3 on my boots and I have patched a few leaks. One or 2 holes from a hook or a branch and now the seam where the rubber boot meets the canvas I am looking for a new ones that will hopefully last longer and are reasonably priced (under$200). These will be year round boots from fishing in 80 degree September days to 0 in February. I prefer boot foot as I have corkers already and am willing to bulk up under them in the winter rather than get ones with alot of insulation due to fishing when warm out. Let me know what you are wearing so I have some ideas.

Clint, I have Wright and Mcgill waders and jacket, going on 4 years and no leaks and I fish alot. Waders are stocking foot breathables witch are lighter and far more durable than neoprine for 100 bucks buy them a size bigger and in the winter put on insulated pants and your fine. You can find boots for under a 100 and even some with corkers built right in, youll be surprised how much lighter than the big boot with 3 pound corkers attached and how much nicer the lighter boot is when your going down river fighting a fish.

Bought a pair of Frogg Togg breathables at Pineville about $120. Only one season but very happy so far. Also cheaper there than anything I found online.

Quality bootfoots are hard to find , Clint. The connection of the boot to the wader leg is a problem that few mfg.'s do well. Even Simms that made what most guides wear aren't making a bootfoot model at this time. Stocking foots with an oversize boot work OK. I got sick of returns and spoiled trips. I made sure my stocking foot was large enough to accomodate a heavy Merino wool sock and a polypro liner inside, and my boot was big enough to allow me to have room to move my toes easily, and the waders themselaves allow a layer of fleece. Dead air space and room for circulation are key. I use screw in carbide studs in my wading boots and they work very well. I hate Korker sandals, as I like to hike. As I wade in the salt and use a float tube a bunch in cold water, I only use pricey waders, so I won't comment on brands. I hope you find some good ones that work for you. I think I remember you having leak issues when we fished with you last season. Yechhhhhhhh.....A few years ago, I walked out with a boot full of wet when it was zero. It was agonizing and that foot is now very susceptible to going numb. Better to avoid this.... Charlie

i have a pair of hogeman stocking foot waders about 6 years old. last year i got a pinhole where the neoprene comes together with the breathable fabic right in the front. anyone know what the best thing to fix them with is. i have used goop in the past on other waders but it leaves a hard place and i think this would be uncomforable since it is about where my boot laces tight and would be rubbing my ankle every step.

Charlie that's where they are leaking right where the boots meet the canvas. Twobob I use Aquaseal and it works GREAT, it remains "somewhat" flexible and seals good. I think I may go with stockingfoot now and get some boots with the cleats already in them. The korkers really give me a workout when I am walking. I may go a bit cheaper on the price and get a pair of breathables and a pair of neos for winter. Heck if my current boots are tight and the patches hold I may wait just get the neos. If I get wet when the weather is warmish it's not as bad. When the water temp gets down in the 30's is when the trouble starts.

On those neos I always use a kitchen knife or popsicle stick when applying the Aquaseal - locate the pinhole and apply a bit of sealant and force it in through the neo to the rubber with the stick or knife. This helps to keep the stiff or hard bulge out and gets the stuff right to where ya want it anyhow.

Clint, id have to say hodgman...for the money you cant beat um.... i suggest boot foot but thats just my opinion. I mostly wet wade for salmon and once i switch to waders its usually cool enough for boot foots... stocking foots can be nippy in the winter time....but i will agree that wading boots with built in cleats are awesome...thats what i wear when wet wading for salmon...
Who remembers stream line neoprenes??? We still have pairs of them in which have been fished for 20 years straight... one pair is even older than me... they were hands down the best waders ever made... then orvis bought yhem out...

Well, after much deliberation I decided on a cheaper set of stocking foots. That way if I do not like them I can keep for a spare. If I do like them I can opt for a nicer set later. Going with Frogg Toggs Helbender with a set of Proline boots. Tried some on at All Seasons yesterday. Only problem is that they are $20 cheaper across the street and $50 cheaper on line so I will probably buy from our sponsor Fish USA.

That surprises me that All Season was not competative on price, but it's good to support our sponser as I try to also. Get those Proline boots a size larger for winter so you can wiggle your toes Clint.

Boy, Jack hit the nail on the head, there, Clint. I wear a polypro liner sock (wicks away moisture) an expedition weight Merino Wool Sock and use a boot and stockingfoot waders that I pretty much only use in winter. They are both a size larger to accomodate the socks and allow plenty of room to move and also fleece pants. Even heat pads if I want them I've never used one, though. You might feel bad, but I'd go in all-seasons and get the right fit before ordering online. Too tight and you'll freeze, too loose and they'll suck to walk in. Hope you find exactly what you need. Thanks guys, I already went there to try them on and was surprised at the price being SO much more than online. Was willing to go $20 more or so to get them right then. I do not feel too bad about trying them on as I spend ALOT in that store as it is. Boot has plenty of room in the toes for xtra socks. Will end up getting the Wading Boots at All Seasons because they are spot on with their price on them with the internet and I want to get the same kind I tried on. Waders are ordered. $99 from Fish USA through Amazon (same price free shipping). Saving close to $40 will be worth the wait. Hoping to get them before the week end. Thought I would wear the old ones until they got here, but they still leak BAD even after the latest patch.

Well here is my review on what I bought. I went with the Froggtogg stocking foots and Korkers Metal head boots with the twist ratcheting lace up system. I did not want to spend the xtra $$$ on the boots but I did. I could not be happier with the selection and so far the boots are worth it. I got 3 interchangeable bottoms for for $165 from pineville. Felt, rubber and spikes. At all the other places the spike bottoms were $30 more and the boots were more too. With the breathable waders and these boots I feel like I can walk forever. Guess I did not realize how heavy those boot foot Korkers were. I have been using the felt bottoms because they are easier to walk in. I just keep the studded bottoms in my backpack if I want to change them out. Money well spent so far and with the xtra room in the toes (thanks Charlie) I know my feet will be as warm in the witnter. The ratcheting system has a life warranty and the boots are always tight on the feet

Geez Clint, I'll feel like I'm a bum fishing around you...lol The original Korker interchangeables had problems, but the new ones have fixed the issues. I tested a pair for Orvis and gave it a thumbs up. I have spoke to a number of people that have had issues with the BOA lace system freezing up. I think a spray of a dry silicone lubricant like Tri-Flow or Super-Lube would cure that in a heartbeat. Either that or you stick your feet under the truck heater for a minute. A little rub of Stanley's ice off or Pam spray would do it , too. My regular laces get frozen solid and there's not a thing to do about that. Cool you got some great gear. Charlie

glad this came around again. just finished putting loon u v sealent on my boots. wanted to check out new technology. it isn't any more flexible than aquaseal which i was hoping for but it really does cure hard in seconds in the sunlight. they claim you can use it on wet waders also. still a little tacky to the touch after a minute but mostly hard. solid enough to do the job i am guessing. anyone tried it and have an opinion. if it works these old hogemens have another dozen years in them. tues morning will be the tell for me.

WB , I have used loon wader repair and knot sense. Both are good products and the loon advantage is that using a small uv light it is instant repair. Down side : you get half the product for the same $$$
If you need a instant fix , loon is the way to go.
Good deal on the new set up Clint . I just splurged last year on Simms . Kinda shed a tear though when they were cut from broken glass on only second trip . Watch out where you tread .
