Carp update from Cambria County

I posted recently about carp fishing in my local lake and many people gave me a ton of ideas and I wanted to give you guys an update.  Well, I have managed no carp... However, my 6 year old son snagged into 2 very nice channel cats using dough balls on the hair rig.  They hit so hard almost pulled my rod in the water... We were unable to get any pics due to the fact that I'm an idiot and forgot to bring the net.  Not a whole lot of fun trying to grab a 2 foot channel cat and pull it into land.  Moral of hte story is i got my hands on both of them but couldnt get them in.  Might of helped if I had bigger hooks but I was using smaller ones in attempt to fool the carp.  Although we didnt get any carp I am optimistic that its only a matter of time before we catch them as well.  And one last note, my son also managed to catch his first snapping turtle.  Only about 12 inches in diameter across the shell, but he was still super excited (and a little nervous!!).  So I wanna thank you guys again for all of the help and if anyone has any dough bait secrets send me a PM! All I used was flour, water, bread crumbs, and bacon grease!  Seemed to work great.  Do you guys things the carp will hit that as well????

My wife doesn't understand that the more I fish, the better chance I have of going pro.... Am I the only one??

They'll try it, but you won't haul on it...You'll end up with more cats then anything. Trust me I used bacon grease already back in my early days of bait making.

There is no secrets to doughbaits all it is a flavored paste and constant rebaiting no matter how stiff the mix gets especially in "warm" water

all you need to do to make carp bait is follow one rule: "what would john denver eat". if a tree huggin hippie will eat it. more than likely, so will carp.
