Big fish, and alot of them out on lake.

I was looking at some posts on SC under lake reports and there are some pictures of some nice fish. From what I have been reading the boat captains are having a great year for their clients.
Hope we get some rain so that these fish can run and play come Sept.

I read the same thing PA. What struck me was the depths they were at. 100-130' and 30-50' down. Saw another post that had the same water column depth and they were picking them off the bottom. Seemed a little shallow compared to recent past years. Does have me thinking a possibility of an early shot of fish running, weather dependent of course. Also noticed on some of those males their long pointed snouts starting to kype. Cooler temps and some rain could make mid-late August interesting.

Read something bout the water conditions due to weather being responsible for the fish being closer in this Summer. Dont know if that makes them get ready to spawn any earlier as I believe the day length has a lot to do with that.
Clearly we have all experienced early or late runs due to various  conditions or whatever really makes them click but it is all within norms over time. Generally only a coupla weeks between normal or early runs or a bit later runs.
We have discussed genetic differences in the same breeds of fish leading to early or late fish to death and I still dont know if that holds water.
Claims of the Lake being extra HOT are common but it does seem a bit better this year--GOOD.

Fish could be in shallow due to an upwelling. As far as timing, everything else is early this year, blueberries are nearly done, butterfly weed is through flowering and it would normally just be peaking, AG folks around here say all the crops are 3-4 weeks ahead, although they may not make it with the (as of yesterday official) drought in W and C NY.  Better do a rain dance if you know one!

So far everything is comparable to 2006 records I kept in relation to water temps, where they are in the big pond, air temps, and so far water flow. That year had some small pods of fish sticking their noses in the low end by August 14th. But with the dwindling water and the temps flirting with 100 from time to time, it could delay things till the more traditional run times. There are patterns here and history repeats but all in all its up to the fish and their urge to get it on.
