YEEEEEEHAAAAAAA I finally had a 30 hook up day on the river
OK so 22 of them were chubs. 6 small bass, 1 rainbow and 1 brown. All taken on worms and worms and spinners. All the bass were 6 to 8 inches and both trout were 6 or 7 inches. Nothing big at all. There were TONS of stonefly husks all over the ground. I took a few to study when I am tying them.

They'll be hundreds on the river tomorrow! Good to see your getting into those advanced skill stages of massive hook-up days, Clint. Just change your inches to pounds and you'll be as truthful as some of the other forums. Of course, you can then start a thread complaining about all the cookie cutter fish and how real men would fish a week at 30 below for the chance at one "real fish". Take some black or brown wooly buggers and fish your fly rod, it'll help technique when the steelies are in. Thanks for the report.

I just finished grilling up the brown I caught last Wednesday. Made with a lemon butter sauce, carrots and rice. Very tasty indeed.

Just got back to CT from a couple of days in SR country. Did the lawn and trimming the first day and on the second had to power wash the house- Mould was gettin outa hand on the siding and I havent done it in a coupla years. Must be kinda nutty but just cant bring myself to let the place go just cause I use it as a camp. Had every intention of bringing my Lab Charlie to the river for a swim and perhaps some bass fishing but it was about 90 degrees when I got done yesterday so just turned on the trucks AC and bolted for CT. Saw a car here and there in the fishermans parking areas and saw that the water was Summer low too. Give you guys fishing in this 'snake weather' a lot of credit. Think about it- only a few weeks till the early Shark report start coming in -- BTW- saw a number of Hen Turkeys here and there in SR country and not one single poult-same is happening here in CT the field across the street had a rare sighting of 3 hens the other day with ONE poult between them. These are places where Turkey flocks were in abundance not so long ago. NO more---- one here and one there-----

The wet cool weather in May probably killed all the poults as there are none to be seen locally in SE Penna. also. They better consider a ban on hunting hens to allow the flocks to rebuild.

Pa- sorry to hear your area has been hit too. As an avid Turkey hunter with gun and bow must admit to not having harvested one in over 2 years. Not that I didnt have some come in but there were so few that passing seemed the prudent thing to do.. Simply cant bring myself to harvest a bird that is practically endangered in my areas. Kinda believe that leaving breed stock is much more important than filling a tag. They aint like fishies- ya cant catch and release--just call them in and look--- We had no mast crop here last year--NONE and that has had an effect but the weather patterns on young poults both here and in SR country have clearly taken severe tolls in recent years. Both here in CT and at my place in NY flocks were commonplace a few years ago- now seeing singles is nowhere near as common as seein flocks used to be. Out back in Ct there used to be a flock of over 2 dozen birds and another of about half a dozen--in Ny my backyard was home to a flock of about a dozen and a half every AM and about half dozen each afternoon- Now - an occasional single or two on irregular days in both places---sad commentary.

I live very close to over six hundreds acres of watershed property and did not hear a single gobbler this past season. Coyotes and poor nesting weather has decimated the flocks in my neck of the woods. Time to go to one tom spring & fall leaving the hens alone.

Agree on the Hen moratorium. Used to be able to go out the back door with a coffee inte AM before and during Tom season and hear no less than 5 on the roost. Every day for years. Not one single gobble in 2 years. Same woods too- no new construction- hundreds of total acres most of which is protected property-and I was the only Turkey hunter in there on a small portion of it Walked a few hundred acres this fall and saw no scratching whatsoever. Lack of Mast had lot to do with that but -NOTHING ???.. They are still there and an occasional track or sighting proves it but the numbers are very low indeed. BTW- sorry bout the hijack Clint

Hey Clint give that articulated fly I tied for the swap a twirl. Either in a lake or river. I'm certain it will produce.

RT and PA no problem on the hijack, I too have seen limited young uns on my acreage. Gerry I am saving those flies for my fishing trip to Sacandaga this August. I am hoping for some pike or bass on them. I do plan on taking my 5 wt up to the trestle very soon though.

In an effort to continue the hijack--Here in overpopulated Central Ct its gettin more and more like the 'big woods'. Was a Moose a coupla days ago bout 8 miles North of me and last week there was a Bear walking around folks yards-again- just down the street. Got Beavers in the lake across the street too. Can also hear Yotes most any night yippin on the ridge out back. A Confirmed Cougar got road killed bout 20 miles West of here early this year too. As a kit we had none of this stuff- kinda really like the change. A friend looked out the back window last year and there was a Buffalo standing there bout a mile from here- got loose from someplace- they caught him and took him back- heard the Buffalo is still around the house though.

To continue the hijack.......30 yrs ago around my area it was pheasants by the thousands, now there are none/wild....those birds have been replaced by turkeys but in much smaller numbers. Back in the day a deer sighting below the mountains 20 miles north was a event, now they are everywhere even in the city of Allentown. Speaking of beavers, the city now has to wrap trees with wire mesh to prevent the giant rodents from knawing them down :) Since building my home about 6 miles west of the city I have had bears visit me several times, never a Moose though LOL! Things sure do change,I hear Salmon will hit a properly presented lure/fly/bait.....who would have thought?
