NEW SITES TO BE DEPLOYED TOMORROW 5/17/12
Hi all, We just want to let everyone know tomorrow morning 5/17/12 we will be deploying our upgraded FishErie, FishSalmonRiver, and Forums websites. There may be a short period of time where there may be no access to the sites. We do not for-see the transition taking much time. Please contact us at webmaster@fishusa.com if you are having troubles with any of the new sites. We thank you for your continued support. FishUSA Staff

What? You changed it? Why are you messing with it? This new site is too hard to use. What was wrong with the old site? I can't find anything! There. Got that out of the way for you. Great job guys. I like the new layout and the home page is pretty cool.

Honestly, I really don't like it....I will still use it. But not as much. I defintely liked the other colors better, more natural and user friendly. I like the new inbox, and having more PM options, however, not sure what they are, since it will not load for me. I think the new setup is to boxy. The old one had lots of eye friendly curves.

Not really liking the new colors and format either. PM box is hard to get to and then back to the forum page.

Please give the new forums a chance. We deployed them less than two hours ago. The forum software we were using was written in "Classic ASP." That programming language is becoming antiquated. There was a more current version of the software, but it was not available in Classic ASP; it is available only in the .NET programming language. To keep the forums current, and to better integrate the forums with our regional sites and the reports posted there, we upgraded the forums to the current version, and migrated them from Classic ASP to .NET. We also entirely re-wrote and refreshed the look of the the FishErie.com and FishSalmonRiver.com sites in .NET (replacing the Classic ASP versions), integrating the forums registration process into the new forums. We also brought back the fly patterns, angler library and recipes on the regional sites that we lost when we moved all these sites to the new server last fall. Now the forums are running the latest version of the forum software, on a dedicated, robust server. If anyone experiences any issues with the new forums or regional sites, please let us know either by PM or email (to webmaster@fishusa.com), and we will try to address any problems. We hope you like the new version once you get accustomed to it.

Unless I've missed it, after you read the last posting, you have to scroll back up to the top to exit the site.

Mod. I noticed that if you go into mine or any others profile page that you dont have any options to pm or view anything on there page. Also trying to edit anything other than your basic information in my profile page, like feature preferences, additional options avatar and sig, are not working. I didnt know if you knew about this but i wanted to bring this to your attention. I tried to pm Mod but it will not let me.

We have added the ability to easily insert YouTube videos in your posts. There is an example here To add a video, just press the YouTube icon in the text editor and paste in the address of the video.

We are currently working on fixing the remaining issues with the new software. We are aware of the customization options not functioning properly and are working to resolve the issue. Thank you for your patience.

I still like the old way better! Still to boxy! And you have to scroll to read the whole message, unless you are rich and can afford a bigger moniter. Doesn't seem to fit on my small 19". And really these colors suck! I understand taht you have to upgrade, etc.....but this looks like the old forums.....At least try changing the colors if you can....More natural....

I understand the need to remain current with the technology... but definitely preferred the appearance of the other board myself. But my major complaint about this new format is the loss of the ability to click one button and have a list of new posts. On the previous board you could go down to the bottom of the main forum page and had the option 'posts since last visit'.... this option then gave you a list of individual posts all on one page instead of having to wade through the forums one area at a time. For me it seemed much easier, then if you left it sit idle for a while and came back later you could just refresh the page and any new posts were again listed at the top for easy reference. I belong on numerous other sites, all have at least a similar option to the 'posts since last visit' option we used to have... so am hoping this can be added back as admin tweeks the site. As of now I can't do any updates to my preferences on my PM inbox, and in fact it won't even let me delete old ones... but I think that may change as admin works the kinks out. Navigation around the site doesn't seem as easy as it was before, but again, I am old and set in my ways.... so I imagine it will get easier with exposure/use. Congrats and well done to the administration folks for the hard work put into getting this up and running... just adding the video linking option is going to be something I'm sure a lot of folks will enjoy!

Other than the "change" which I have no choice but to get used to Im not sure I like it yet . Gimme / it time I guess. I dont like change that much.

I agree crappiefisher... I tried my old 'favorite' link for about 4 hours today before I went to the fishusa store, then clicked through to the regional site and eventually got to the forum... anyone using their original favorite link (if they had it set up that way) probably is still getting a 'server error' message like I did all morning! Also... ATTN ADMIN.... you may want to 'sticky' a thread somewhere specifically for folks to use to communicate preferences/issues they come across during this transition. A lot of threads are already up regarding the changes and many are duplicating things. A dedicated thread will make communication easier. Also may be a good way for folks to help each other out as we find ways to work things.
