Laurel Hill ???

Does anybody know if they stocked Laurel Hill lower section on Thursday ?    I was thinking they cancelled due to the high water.  I went Friday, it was fishable but not by much.   Only seen 1 person on the stream so thought they may have cancelled.

sections 4 and 5 were stocked wednesday - very high water - the fish went in and none came out as it was mostly unfishable. thursday night and friday were very good.

there's lots of fish in these two secions.

4 of us fished Friday night, slept stream side then fished Saturday morning. Water was perfect and we caught a ton. Saw a few others that weren't having much luck and saying they didn't stock. I just laughed and felt sorry. I will post some pics from our outing later tonight.

if you go to the trout stocking section of the PFBC site, enter somerset county and an april to june time window - then scroll down to laurel hill creek, you'll see the stocking schedule for each section of the creek and also a longitude and latitude of the beginning and end of the section. if you click on any of these, a map will come up showing the exact locations.

Vast portions of Section 5 are nowhere near roads.  Do they float stock these areas ?  or just not stock them at all ?   Reckon fish know how to swim. haha

the main truck can only stop at bridges in section 5 but there's no less than three small trucks owned by volunteers and trout clubs who distribute the section 5 trout along various back roads.  you need to join them at the meeting spot - which is typically the laurel hill dam parking lot - then follow them to find out where go.

to me, section 5 is not an enjoyable section to fish - it is broad and shallow with very few real "holes" or holding places.  the trout are where the trout are.  you have to walk extensively on slippery as ice rocks. although the smaller truck do stop at a few nicer deep runs - you need to follow them the find these.

I hear what you're saying phishfearme, but honestly, you just described pretty much all of Laurel, no ?   I have never even seen the upper reaches up by the dam, so maybe it has a deeper make-up than the rest.   That lower section, once you get around Ursina on down to the mouth, is like fishing in a cesspool.   I guess because of certain "things" piped in the water from the community.   The stream there is a 180 from the more "rural" parts.

But all in all, Laurel is a FlyFisherman's stream.  Quite shallow, and tough for a bait drifter.

section 4 is distinctive from 5 as there are a few holes at various bends and bridges (just upstream from the triple creek bridge for example) - i've yet to find something that i would call a "hole" in section 5 - it just has periodic deep runs that can change significantly from year to year.  section 4 above the trent bridge has a steeper slope so it's rocky with periodic deep runs (and has one of the highest number of stocked trout per mile in the state) - below the trent bridge the stream flattens out and forms holes and slower water but lots of mud.

sections 2 and 3 (DHALO) though have LOTS of good deep holes - the stream characteristics are totally different. section 3 above the lake has a steep pitch and is rocky but above that (around the boy scout camp) it's wonderful.  section 2 has lots of holes - section 1 isn't stocked.
