So the egg sinker goes between the rod and the barrel swivel?

Yes, it allows the fish to run w/o feeling the weight. plus the roundness of it "helps" to prevent it from snagging up as much in the rocks.

I prefer to tie my weight on a leader/slip rig setup. I use 8lb test for the leader and 30 lb test for my main line. Allows the fish to still run without feeling the weight. Also, the majority of snags are due to the weight itself not the hook. This setup ensures the weight leader breaks off before the hook does, that way you dont have to keep losing those expensive gamagatsu octopus hooks...best catfish hooks out there in my honest opinion

EXCELLENT read! Brings back memories of catching Cats on the shores of Lake Erie (Lake View, NY) with friends, beach fires, and cold beer. Shrimp was our favorite bait. Used Chicken Liver once and caught a Blue. Never did catch one (Blue)since that night.

    Keep up the great work!

I completely agree. We've used the big 8/0 Gamakatsu Circle hooks for huge blue cats on the James River. Our best is a little over 50 pounds. We use cut up shad and the hooks are still super sharp after repeatedly being jammed through the bait and catching many fish.

SNAG: Good point. I use that style when I am drift fishing the rivers from the boat, I use a pencil lead or bell sinker and tie off with thinner line so it breaks off there. I didn't get into that in the article.
    Thanks,

I got one more finished and another in the works. However, both will be later in the year. One deals with squirrel hunting and the other on ice fishing and ice safety. Hopefully the editor likes them and they get published.
