FM radio legend passes

For all of you who remember the early days of FM radio in the metropoltitan area, particularly WNEW-FM, I learned last night of the passing of one of the cornerstones of that station, Pete Fornatale.

Fornatale was a DJ's DJ who always made a point to introduce new, upcoming artists along with newly released albums. Were it not for him I probably would have never heard of Buffalo Springfield, Poco, Aztec Two-Step and a host of others. Long gone are the days when DJ's would personally program the music for that day's show. Today its all computer generated hearing the same songs from one station to another.

Rest in peace Pete and thank you for all the great music you brought to your audiences.

Also found out that bassist Chris Ethridge of the Flying Burrito Brothers passed away the other day. Ethridge wrote "Hot Burrito #1" with Gram Parsons The only surviving member of the group is Chris Hillman.
