Weekend trip
In the next few weeks my friend and I want to make a weekend trip to a nice trout area. We are looking for some wild trout streams and some stocked streams just in case we get skunked going for wild trout. I would like to travel no more than 3 hours for this, but I can deal with 4 hours if I have to. I was thinking about going to Cedar and slate run, but that is around 4 hours and I would like to stay a little closer if possible. Also when would an ideal time to go be? Also also, any camping spots would be awesome too, but if I have an idea where we are going I can look that up myself. I am from Washington county, figured I should probably mention that

I would consider Penns Creek in Center county, one of the best streams in the state.
Plus if you stay at Poe Paddy State park you are pretty much stream side. And right up the road in Poe Vally state park is a stocked lake.

consider heading up to the allegheny national forest region - probably the most wild/native trout streams in the state. the west branch of the clarion above ridgway and it's tributaries can provide a true semi-wilderness experience. it pretty much parallels route 219 so access is pretty good. a couple of special regualtion areas are there - trophy trout just above ridgway and fly fishing only near the montmorenci turnoff from 219.
rocky run - just north of the village of wilcox is good for wild and native trout - access is difficult but doable - and requires alot of walking. buck run near burning wells is also good.
and on the drive up, you could stop anywhere along red bank creek for some good stocked trout action - especially around summerville.

dude...the whole grand canyon of pa area kicks some major ****.....state campgrounds, awesome sight and great fishing. im going back there soon....

Head north to the ANF, lots of stocked water around Ridgway, never went after natives up there but their probably around, its right around a 3 hour drive.

I agree with Fishfearme. Find just about any water in the ANF that's not polluted with mine drainage and you will catch native brookies. Also plenty of stockies in a lot of the streams. Also, try the Laurell Highlands by 7 springs. Tons of natives and a few wild brown & bows in many of the streams there. Plus you have stocked streams and lakes as well.

The creek that flows into indian creek behind star market have anthing in it?Always wanted to see if any native in it but never got a chance.

i think you mean roaring run. that is one beautiful valley it drains and the entire drainage is protected by the roaring run natural area. native brookies galore but as usual in these infertile streams, they are small - hard to find one over 7 inches.
also - jones mill run on the other side of the ridge from roaring run (east side) is stocked with mainly brookies. main stocking points are where the stream crosses laurel hill state park road and also where the stream crosses jones mill run road.
then of course there's sections 2, 3 (delayed harvest) 4 and 5 of laurel hill creek plus the laurel hill lake itself - very heavy stocking with all the public access there.

This is probably my favorite trout destination. I can't say that I chase the natives, but for stockies and the sights, it is hard to beat. A ton of cabins available. It is a bit of a drive though.

I would try Kettle Creek in Clinton and Potter Counties lots of fishing and the lake is stocked, wilds and stockies in the upper reaches of the stream. lots of camping areas plus if you explore the state forest roads there are a few streams that hold stocked,wild, and native fish.

Try Potter County, From Wharton to Cherry springs. There is first fork of sinnemehoning , east fork of sinnenemehoning and many small tributaries off both that are great wild trout waters.Also alot of campgrounds around area.
