4/22/12

If you are looking for some pics ........................................................... .................................................... This is the wrong thread to look in.
I met up with DB this AM and we headed off to the DSR in search of some dropbacks and had no such luck at all. DB had 1 good take and I had none. He fished with the float and I fished with the fly. We covered a alot of water. We tried it all, beads, bags, every color and fly in my box and there were no takers. We saw a few beat up ones swimming around and a few around us caught 1 or 2. I guy reported catching a 3 to 4 lb bass and even some reports of an Atlantic being taken. Times were tough all around us and according to the gate keeper it has been slim pickins' down there. Water, of course, was quite low. Water temp did go down about 3 degrees from yesterday (53 yesterday 50 today) to today with the rain, maybe that was it. Reports are they are banging them good in town, but not here. With the the water temp still around 50 and the oncoming heavy rain coming it may just push many of the fish back to the lake.
I learned alot about the DSR and how to read the pocket water a bit better. Other than not getting into fish I had a great time sharing the water and some thoughts with DB.
Again Andrew thanks for the day and sharing the knowledge with me.

Good day to be the last steel trip of the year as I found my boots leaking in more than 1 spot at the seam where the boot meets the wader. Time for a nice breathable pair.

Ive said it before, fishing does not always mean catching and sometimes just spending the day on the water with a fellow angler is just as good as landing a trophy. Dime is good people and fun to fish with. Thanks for the mention of the bass, hope the forcasted rain comes and I can fish them with the plugs, big fun! Walleye tournament coming up for me got a great team to fish with, no pros just 2 good buds alot of laughs and some good tunes. FISH ON FRIENDS AND PEACE!

Dime and I talked about the toothy critters today. Although I have only fished there a few times and then mostly through the ice. This place should not be overlooked. I have heard of some big boy's being taken out of there.
http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9328.html. 10 hp max on engine in there and weeds get thick in the summer. Also some VERY big sunfish and crappie too.

Good to see your post.Any day on any water is a good day.Got all electrical working on boat on Sat and looks like one more day should do it. Have caught lots of pickerel but only one pike and that was in Sodus Bay. My boat would be perfect in there. Now you got me thinking..

Oh, you want the honest report. We each went 15 for 21, biggest one was 18 lb's. No pics because you could see the color bead we used. Oh, no I told you we used beads, now everyone will be using them. That's the honest report.

RG, I know you like to fish alone, but maybe sometime we can get a bit of water time in too.

Any day fishing with friends is a good day, even with leaky boots and no fish.

Clint, I read a report on a coastal forum  from a Mass. striper guide who visited the SR last week and had a slow start in the morning , only landing 20 before it picked up in the afternoon and he landed another 50 or 60. I kinda think I won't trust his coastal reports.. Thanks for the decoy and the honest report.  I hope we can hit some early salmon, glad you got to see the DSR with Dime.   I was getting the itch, but after seeing you only landed 15 and  a measly  18 lb'er, I think my season is over. Smallies and Pike in the estuary on the other hand....

    Charlie-
Friend and I were up bout 25 yrs ago for 2 days for Kings- SSLLLOOOOOW goin at best. Can be that way sometimes early fishin low and between runs- no biggie - just fishin. Not just us either - nobody was on them anyplace near us.
Commercial report posted by a Pulaski business in  a New England fishing mag reported "FANTASTIC run of Kings- -now is the time to go" right smack dab where we fished both days- they even posted the dates we were there.  I had bought it a coupla days after we came back- was the LAST time I bought it too.
Always wondered how many guys took off  from work for their one trip a year cause of that BS.

Clint, it sure did beat a days work we spoke with 2 seasoned guides who fished it hard for 2 days and all they came up with were 2 small atlantics. It was slim pickings for sure down there. Tuna, we hit every bit of fishable water from the island above the stairs to the tail of the joss. And we were more than persistent. We even hit many of the same spots fora second round on the way back up...hey, **** happens. Still enjoyed myself...atleast we didnt pay 300 bucks a day for 2 days to get skunked with a guide

I went up to the hatchery afterwards and believe it or not there ate still 3 holding pens full of fish, the fish ladder was holding about 50 fish and beaver dam had fish above and below the gate still..

Definitley game on for toothy critters in the summer time.

3fan, maybe a smallie outting in the summer?

Sorry you did n't hit any players down there,at least it did n't cost you anything Clint.
Reading some reports on the "other" board leads one to believe there are still fish present but scattered in the deeper water upriver in town and above. However,it seems the bite died when the NE wind came in late Saterday and Sunday. That NE wind is the worst to fish in,don't think I ever had a good day fishing in a NE wind.
We finally got some rain here, but need a lot more.
