Laurel Hill

Anyone do any good today? I went this morning and only had 1 on. Some fish caught but no where near the numbers my dad was telling me from years past. I walked about a mile stretch and hardly seen any fish. Some guys caught a couple but the majority didn't catch anything. I seen at Jacob Mills alot of guys had stringers. I parked at that Gift shop Inn place and walked across the bridge. Most fish were caught on spinners.

I went to Laurel Hill about 4:00 and walked up stream a couple hundred yards.  On my second cast I missed a trout and in about 2 hours fishing I missed 4 or 5 other strikes.  I was using a yellow marabou streamer with a stinger hook and they were still hitting short.

In maybe a quarter mile of stream I did see 3 palominos and there were some fish being caught on dry flies.

The only fish I actually touched came about when I managed to get my hook through the hole in the smallest thingabobber someone lost and there were was a decent size rainbow hooked along with the tandem nymphs the fellow was using.

had a very poor opening day on LHC. got a great spot at one of my favorite holes in the park and proceeded to catch 4 in the first 20 minutes on a lure (and missed a few) then nothing. moved all over the stream and only two others - not real good at all. why? first, the water was very low, slow and very clear then became muddy with all the walkers in the stream which really made things tough.

but i think the other main item was that on the preseason stocking day three saturdays ago, the stream was a high flowing muddy mess. we could not get to the real stream bed in many cases and just had to dump buckets where ever we could - so by the time opening day came around these fish were spread out over the entire creek with only a few holding holes.

8 of us go to Laurel every year for the weekend. Fished the DHAO Friday from BSA camp to bridge and I picked up 7-8 on the fly rod, couple on top. Saturday we caught 52 between 6 of us, 2 from our group struck out for the 1st time that I can remember. Slow start to the morning but around lunch it turned on. I didn't have a fish til 930. Got up Sunday morning after raining all night and found perfect conditions. Got 16 in 2.5 hrs. Same water fished from the day before but the spooky fish turned very hungry over night. They are in there just the same as years past but Saturday you had to have the right bait/fly, hook, line and drift.

Our group went out there early this morning, it was low but we caught a bunch walking up and down the streams entering and exiting the lake. Bite died @ 10:30 moved to the creek near my house and we slayed them until dark.
