SWEEEEEET. If I had that 1 mile from my house it would be over for me too. I may go up a few more times, but honestly I have fished more this fall and winter than in the past 5 years combined. Time for some perch and walleye fishing and to start getting some stuff done around the house. I also have my trip to Sacandaga this summer too. I do plan on a few summer trips up to the river in search of real lead and to get some hardware out trees and logs. Smallies and a summer run would be a plus.

That is quite a lunker there. Sweet..... I may have to pay you a visit sometime soon if I find the time Clint, lower river pockets are prime for finding lead. Anywhere there is sand collected from either large or small back eddies is guaranteed to have lead. Sift through it like your panning for gold a tube, mask and snorkel will help you out tremendously. Just simply float down stream with your face in the water... be sure to bring a good sized bucket

Nice cow. Do you have a guesstimate or actual weight? Looks every bit of thirty pounds from the photo if not larger. My buddy is hitting the river tomorrow, fishing out of Haverstraw. I'm headed up to Rochester for a charter on Sunday out on the big tub. Browns and whatever else decides to cooperate. I hope to have some nice pics and story as well.

You ask questions, I have answers: 1. I did not rob any banks. 2. Yes the Hudson River is 1 mile from house.. The Sport Creek leading into is my back yard.. 3. My beater J-boat is 14'with a good ole' 55 Johnson 7.5hp. It gets me any where I need .. Even the Big Pond.. 4. Bait was key.. 3 Herring jigged, 3 Stripers fought.. F' them netters.. 5. Location, location.. This is my home.. No crowds here :) 6. Weight, an easy 30 +.. Took what seemed like 20 mins using 20# test to bring to hand.. What a fight :) 7. Going to get 5 meals out of her.. Tonights was GREAT.. !! All fish from here on will be released.. Tomorrow is another day :) Fishing is Fun.. Peace & Tuna

Great fish! Have caught a few in the Delaware near the NJ/PA GAP Shad fishing in past , nothing near the size of the one your holding. Tuna, how do you prepare and cook your Stripers? Had a meal a few years back at a restaurant where the striper was baked in a mound of Salt. It was very good. For the one your holding I think you would need a wheel barrel of salt and a wood furnace to bake it? Awesome Fish!

My two favorite meals because the mildness of the flesh are striped bass and summer flounder (Fluke). Grilled, fried, broiled or poached it's all delicious. HT-I made it down to the Beacon last night. Nice show.

Brings back memories of the 'boat years'- good job. Used ta love bouncin live stuff for Stripers. Even dead stuff. Hey -that is definatly on the plus side of 30 maybe even 40 plus. My best was 52 an that one aint too far off. Fillet da fishie - double some Alum foil- lay down sliced onion and then put the fillet on it- Then squeeze lemon juice on the top and put on some sliced lemon and a little sliced lime- seal the foil and put it on the grille for a while. UUMMMMMM. Frankly the smaller ones eat better IMHO.

Do they stay in there all season Tuna or are they only there for wintering?? I know they are in and out of river mouths and even a bit 'higher' in Summer but generally only 'way in' during the winter in many places. Dont know how far up you are located. Sounds like a great morning- dont stop---

Yup . On river dumb phone. Things died after I landed 1 and tide changed. RT : These are spawner cows .. They will only be around until water hits 70deg. In 48 years on this river , this is the earliest good "run" . Knew it was coming with lack of snowmelt in adk headwaters. Small schoolies do however stick around all year but these bad boys & girls eat them as bait.

Once again, Hit the water at 6:30am.. Tide was just starting to fill enough to run up the creek and jig some bait.. We were there for about 1 hr and caught 6 baits, jigging !! There were hords of netters pilliaging in the rapids.. One only knows why ?? Cant wait for tighter regs:))Whine, whine.. Once we hit the river (boat issues), it took 10 mins to have 3 fish on.. Fast was the action until just after slack tide.. They were hitting on slack but out going shut everything down on our end.. Funny because rippin out was hot yesterday.. We bailed at 2 today because of motor "issues".. Any way those 6 baits lasted 2 anglers from 6 hrs and 9 Stripers played with.. We just could not connect them to hand.. Some were true Fighters !! Finally, CPR The afternoon bite If this stuff is to far off topic just let me know.. To me it's about fishing and sharing the experience:: Great day

Tuna, seems as if more than a few have responded positively to your post...I can't see why anyone would mind your posts. Besides, the mods have been actively deleting posts here...I guess we'll see what they think of it...

HT I love the posts too. Keep 'em coming. It's about as off topic as asking fly tying advice on this board and not the tying board. This forum really starts to cool down until fall, but it's nice to see where others are fishing other than the river. I may have 1 more time in me, but stuff around the house is piling up. I also need to get to Whitakers before it closes May 1st so I can have some supplies and hooks for summer fun. My goal this summer will be to catch as many things as I can on my fly rod during the limited number of times I can go out. I will also post results. Clint

Tuna, keep the post coming. This is great. Never fished the Hudson. Live about an hour south of Newburgh in NJ. Do not know how far above Newburgh you are. I travel up there to work occasionally and see the signs for Sturgeon Stocking. Have you ever hooked into a sturgeon? Great Posts. We really need some rain in NJ or it's gonna get ugly!

Thanks for the kind words about the posts.. Normally they would still be about the SR but as I said things are 3 weeks ahead and that fishery is over for me now.. Good luck to all those still chasing Steel.. I do want to come up in summer for toothy critters .. Hope to hang with a few folks then.. Really the only down time for my fishing is July>Aug.. But now found a new liking for RI Littlenecks at that time .. I'm about 1.5 hrs north of Newburg.. I hate to use this Marker But think of Hudson, it's not far at all from my house.. The trib and river is out back.. Going back at it tomorrow and most next week.. Got some work detail at deer camp in Oneonta next weekend but some sweet trout streams flow through so maybe more fishing pic's.. After that, who knows.. With this season as it is BROOKIES are calling..

Fishin is fishin no matter where ya do it- The Board would be all done till August without some' off topic' discourse here and there mixed in with an occasional Steel, Atlantic or Smallmouth story- To me 'off topic ' would be more like- ahhhh - I dunno - ahhhhh- not fishin stuff ??

Thank you Tuna respect your territory. Never fished the Hudson would be clueless where to go. Hate this time of year because everthing hits at once. NJ Stocking - SHAD - which are fun to catch (poor mans salmon) - Calico's spawning and Largemouth. Agree with you about the SR. Went up over St. Pats day and thats it till Labor day for me. Maybe give the Delaware a poke for SHAD and Catfish. Once the shad start dying the catfish get hungy along with the small stripers. Walleyes are down til mid May. Hard to find the time now between yard work regular work. Keep the reports coming!

Pistol Pete. Your in Onion and Pierogi Country in Florida NY. Fished some nice lakes on Route 23 in Stockholm NJ with some good Calicos. Tuna knows there are sweet to eat. My one buddy I fish the Salmon River with lived in Mcafee. Short poke to the Hancock from there. That may be another potential trip in May. we do need some rain though!
