Best Walleye Lakes In Western PA Ideas?

Does anyone have a good walleye lake in western pa they would like to share?

I used to fish Lake Wilhelm a lot for walleye however the fishing up there the past two years has significantly gone down hill...has stocking stopped up there?

any information or comments would be great!

Looking for a good lake, I live in Pittsburgh. I frequent Moraine, Wilhelm, and Erie. However the catfish population in lake arthur has really taken over the lake, and up Wilhelm the fishing hasn't been good for walleye in 2 years. Anyone have information on Wilhelm if it is still being stocked yearly, or reasons for it's decline.

some not as many as in previous years. I have had success in the past with thundercranks and drifting twister tail jigs. But most catches are in the mid 20's range!.

I have never fished pymie but read the 2011 biological report and was quite encouraged by the numbers. Have you fished there much? any portion of the lake or artificial baits you would reccomend?

If you are not interested in fishing the 3 Rivers, then your options are fairly limited with a few exceptions mentioned above.

If you are willing to drive all the way up to Wilhelm, you might as well keep trucking to Lake Erie.  I can certainly say that you aren't going to find any lakes in Western PA that will compete with the quality of Lake Erie's walleye fishery.  For that matter, you probably won't find many in the nation that could.

From second hand knowledge only, Erie if you have the boat that can handle, or Pymie if not. Both, you need to follow the seasonal patterns, and put ample time on both to figure out (which I haven't).

First hand knowledge, Pymie eyes don't like me... Although, I usually go in better family vacation times of the year, than fishing times. I have caught the most, legal eyes from Arthur, although all came while targetting other species. This is the lake that I have dedicated the majority of my fishing time for the past few years though. I spent two seasons trolling for them at Arthur, and none to show for it. I did get one trolling, but really targetting wipers. I would imagine, if I kept it up, I would crack the code. A ton of great information on here, as well as meeting a few of the lake regulars in person. BTW - One of the largest channel cats that I have ever seen, fell victom to my walleye trolling, so know what you mean.

I have caught hands down, the most legal eyes from the 3 rivers. Allegheny is probably #2 in the state, behind Erie. Which might be the best in the country.

another vote here for the 3 rivers. I keep thinking i should make a trip up to my cabin at pymy but the average river eye is better than the average pymy eye IMO.

Porktown, I have a varied success at Arthur fishing the Humps, and Road Beds for eyes. But I seem to catch more catfish walleye trolling then anything else.
I appreciate all the input from everyone!

good walleye lakes for guys with smaller boats are few and far between in western PA. i think pymie is the best option. i used to do very well at keystone power dam but that place has turned into the dead sea (see other posts for opinions as to why). kinzua used to produce nice catches but i gave up on that one also. high point lake is devoid of walleye - fished there for over 15 years and never caught one.

so now i've decided to save the $$ i would've spent chasing walleye ghosts in western PA and do a flyin trip in northwestern ontario - one week at one of these lakes will not only satisfy all your walleye needs (AND the walleye are all Black and Gold!!) but will also "fill you walleye tank" as one of our outfitters would say during the spring feasting.

    Blue lagoon,

If you're catching catfish, then you're probably in the ballgame for walleyes at arthur.  If we're catching catfish there, we know its just a matter of time before the eyes start to feed in the same area.  Just gotta wait them out.  Don't change the presentation.  If we get into the stripers, we usually move.  When  the stripers are biting deeper, it seems like you can't get your bait to the walleyes.

Be out for sure at midnight, hoping to beat the last years time of 36 minutes for 12 keepers between two of us. All the fish we kept were 22"-26".

I'm hoping to head out for the opener itself, but likely bump to mid week. Weekends are filling up too fast. It sucks that I have to take vacation days from work to get out. I guess that is what vacation days are for though. It's nice getting out with less traffic on the water, although dealing with the traffic on the commute is twice as bad.
