Twin Lakes

I was searching through the boards to try and find some good info on where to find a depth map of both of the lakes. Anyone know where I can find that? I'm heading out there Saturday morning and want to try and find a spot away from the crowds (best I can) but the problem is the only places I've fished there are where I know tons of people are going to be opening day.

Men and fish are alike. They both get into trouble when they open their mouths.

There are going to be tons of people on opening day. Period. I don't think there's any depth maps, but some of us may have some knowledge from ice fishing there. Get there early and walk to the far wooded side of the lower lake, that's probably the only way to get any kind of elbow room on the opener.

I was actually going to try the wooded side of the lower lake. Any idea the depths? A PM would be just fine, and awesome.

Agreed....I was going to go to my normal creek that I usually fish. However, my girlfriend decided she wants to go and she wants to somewhere where she can cast and not walk through weeds. I'm left with either Twin Lakes or Keystone State Park.

She wants to cast and not walk through the weeds, so you're planning on going to twin lakes and fishing the only piece of shoreline where she will still have to walk through the weeds?

Don't know how hard it is to get one opening day, but renting a boat might be an option for you. Used to love trolling in the pedal boats there, but I don't imagine you'd have too much room to do that on Saturday.

anatikus...I thought that might be an issue. That's why I was hoping to find something good on a map where we wouldn't have to walk far at all.

If you must go 1rst day,I would wait til afternoon. If you plan on renting a boat I would try to reserve 1 now, they go pretty fast rental wise. Also if you do go,be aware that all 3 park lakes won't let you in til 6 a.m., then it looks like Gold Rush days.Even non trout lakes will have more people than normal. There are no maps that I am aware of,but the woods side is the deeper side, the channel that runs through is approx.16' with 1 spot accross from the breast is supposed to be approx.21' The boathouse side ranges from 4' to approx.12' near the breast. sam

Thanks for the input Sam. I'd never been there opening day or opening week for that matter so I'm realizing that I was just blind to how bad it really was. I've decided against the idea of going there opening day and we'll be going somewhere else.

Thanks for the info about the depth though.

JMO, but if I were you, I'd spend opening day at home. Let her sleep in, while you get up early and make her breakfast in bed. Make sure she realizes that you're missing opening day just for her.

You both avoid the crowds and the madness, and you gain some points to spend at your leisure over the next few months.

Been a long time since I braved opening day madness. The catch and release largemouth fishing is usually the best thing going in the state that weekend....
