Reel Lube

I got back from saltwater fishing in florida and i want to give all my reels a cleaning. Is "Reel Magic" the best way to go for the lube? It sells at like wally world for 7 bucks or something. Ed

I'd clean them with wd 40, rinse them then wipe them down. Quantum Hot Sauce and Grease is worth the price.

I fish the  offshore Atlantic canyons  in the summer . If you only used for a single trip I would loosen up the drag and flush with copious amount of freshwater. That should be done immediatelty after fishing every trip. Once a year I completely strip and lube all my salt reels from Penn/ Okuma spinning all the way up to Penn 80TW's. I would stay away from WD 40 in my experience just creates problems. I use either brake cleaner for the metal parts or just good ol' hot water for the plastic parts that the brake cleaner will eat up . I the lube all the gears with grease and oil lightly. Then reassemble. I personally like the Penn reel grease ,and oil for the guts.

and for storing I do spray down the reel with Reel Magic. Take care of them and they will not fail.

Last week one of my large Penn Spinning reels started making noise and was not as smooth as it should be.
When cleaning I will need to figure out what new bearings are needed
Nice thing about the Penn SS ocean reals is that parts are usually easy to find and schematics with part numbers are online.

I use the ardent Reel Kleen kit. I got mine at gander mountain. I like it alot. The cleaner melts the old grease off and you can give it a good scrubbing with the included brush and swabs. Then put some reel butter on your gears and oil on your bearings and you are good to go. Here is a link to it from bass pro.
