3/31

When I saw the river was down to 500 I had to run up. Skipped out on going out to eat with the in laws (my loss ).
There were not as many people as I thought there would be and I got the spot I wanted.
Aside from the comedy show I saw with the drunk guy fishing started slow. Got there at 3:30 and there was nothing doing for everyone around me. Not a hook up from anyone in eye shot until 5:00. From 5 to 6 the bite turned on a bit and I got 3 takes all on a red and black stone fly. Saw each fish as they all jumped 1 or 2 times. Hook popped each time. Got one more take close to 7 on the swing with HT's red and white estaz minnow streamer. Fish hit it like mad and kept on going down stream. Could not control it and it broke off.

Of the fish I saw taken and jump when hooked there was a good variety of darker fish and fish that were bright. I was up a bit farther from where I usually go. I tried some yarn eggs and estaz eggs without luck. I brushed what looked like 2 stone flies off my neck when retying at the bank and that's what led me to try them. I don't know if that's what they were though, but it worked.

Clint, sounds good man.... you can bump up the size of those nymphs this time of year as well. I always like dead drifting a larger nymph and then letting it swing out on the end... kudos for the fish on the swing. Definitely is the most exciting way to catch em...

I was thinking of tying up some #8 stones and a few more of those estaz minnows like HT's pattern. Breaking out the wolly buggers and streamers too

    Clint:
Sorry for not giving you kudos to your day:

    GREAT job !!

If it were me, and I was you... Tie SR SMOLTS !!!
here is the pattern .. Wihtakers is the only place I know has the hooks = Mustad 3906B size #4
Malinda has the Krystal flash = Mixed Color.

    So here is the pattern:
    hook: 3906B size #4
3/4 opal or white estaz (reg size) Rear
    1/4 red estaz Front
Tail & shell back Mixed color Krystal Flash..

1.Cut a good thickness amount of flash 2x lenght of hook.. Tie 1x hook length in as tail and fold rest back behind for later..
    2.Tie in 3/4 of white
    3.Tie in 1/4 red
    4. pull rest of flash over back and tie in at head..
    Trim eye and finish off..

    It's that simple..

HT that's the one I got the fish on the swing with, I used the one you sent in the swap for a pattern. I tied up a few on some #6 hooks I had that were a little longer than 3906B,s, but that's what I had. I am going up on Wednesday and need some stuff so I will stop in and see if they have any.
