Smallmouth Activity

I am new to fishing Erie by boat but we are trying to make a trip next Friday for smallies. Just asking for a few tips and guidance. The weather report is saying the lake is 42 degrees. Are they very active yet? What is the bay temp? Should we be concentrating in the bay or lake? How many FOW? Crankbaits, drop shots? I hope someone can lead us in the right direction. We appreciate it! Thank you!

I hope this helped a bit. Everything is early this year. Just go fish for them and you wont be disappointed. If you find em , Great and have fun. I go every chance I get.I go fishing, Once you find em the rest is catching. Good luck.

If this helps use metal baits early like now . I usually find em deeper in the main lake. Fish the bay like a regular lake and explore.

Throw some heavy white spinner baits, I've been doing good on flukes. I will fish deep for them but been finding any clear water I can looking for prespawn fish

I went up on Saturday and fishing was VERY slow for me. I stayed in the bay and threw about everything, including an A rig. The air temps were colder than the water and the sun never came out. I read elsewhere that folks did well on Sunday.

Just have a good fish finder to find stumps and drop offs. Side view really helps, its been no fish for an hour run 1 or 2 miles. Last week was the fluke, this week cranks have been the heavy hitters
