2012 Mon River Thread

Figured I'd start a thread for my most often fished river.

Chunky smallies have been hitting on the Elizabeth pool. Caught 3 the other day then went down today for about an hour and right before i was packing up I popped a nice 2.5-3lber right off a rocky drop off on a shiner. Bomber Crankbaits and Cotton Cordell blade baits were working good over the last few days but not a single hit on one today.

Fished the city pool a few days ago as well. 1 walleye on a shiner and a few white bass on a 1/4oz joe fly

Tight lines.

I have some pics of the ones earlier this week but I left my phone at home today (I NEVER DO THAT). upon catching the fish and realizing i didn't have my camera, i could no longer stay and fish. I knew if I stayed I'd land a whopper and be hella mad i couldn't snap a pic lol

Here's a pretty one from Wed....

Finally got a smallie down at the park the other day, nothin to brag about but just glad to have finally got somethin out of the Mon this year. Another smallie tore the same spinnerbait off my line under the Birmingham bridge, must have caught a tooth setting the hook and/or frayed line. They were hitting quite aggressive that day since the water is finally warming up and air pressure was quite high. I just wish I could find a spot with some of decent size, haven't caught anything much bigger than 14". 2-3lber would make my day, guess I just gotta get out of Southside.

Been hitting the Mon. pretty hard the past 2 weeks. 50+ walleyes, the biggest 28 3/4 which was caught today, 25 smallmouth or so the biggest was 20 inches, and a handful of sauger and white bass.
    White and green jigs. Crankbaits.
