Mammoth Dam

Can anybody comment on the vegetative growth in Mammoth Dam? Did the drawdown/herbicide have any noticeable effect? It seems that in recent years, you could walk across the lake - the weeds were that thick.

Thanks in advance.

i haven't been out to mammoth yet. a friend of mine went there to walk around last week. he said it looked decent, but that was a week ago. he also fishes it for trout, so the weeds aren't that bad when he's there anyway.

a pfbc officer told me that the lake only gets 8ft deep at its deepest so the water probably stays pretty warm in the summer so weeds weeds and more weeds

Last time I was there the visibility was only about 12". even w polarized "fishing glasses". I dunno if it was an algea bloom or from dead weeds or what, but I didn't get too snagged up. but then again I'm accustomed to fishing that lake in a weed resistant fashion.

If you've fished it at different times of the year, you know how the weeds are. Right now it's completely clear and open.

By August, I expect it to have its typical bowl of salad appearance.

Good point. The disappointing part is that several years ago it was very fishable (minimal weeds) through September. The past few (5 or so) years it has been horrendous from May on...........

That's a good lake for carp and catfish. It has no business holding trout.
