First Day of Spring

I usually judge the first day of spring by when I catch a smallmouth. Well, this morning I caught two. Nothing huge. The first one about 11", the second one about 14+". Its spring.

so you celebrate spring the first time you catch a smallie

as a noted trout enthusiast, how do you celebrate the first trout you catch?

Generally I throw it up on the bank for the coons to eat.

Sometimes I throw it in a wood chipper. Sometimes I just puncture the air bladder and throw it back. Sometimes I put a 4/0 in the back and a 4/0 in the lips and throw it out to catch a real fish. Really, nothing too ceremonious, I just want to make sure it stops living and polluting my waterway. Glad you asked!

Now, if its a char. Thats a different story. I treat those native char with kid gloves. They are beautiful fish.
