Tried it once during a pretty fast paced perch bite. An emerald cut into 3's works better than gulp. lol

I tried it for perch last year and did pretty decent. We were running out of minnows so I put one of them on and caught a bunch. They caught about the same as live minnows, but that was only from one experience...

As much as I love Gulp minnows for smallies, I have tried many times to perch with them. No luck. Used the 1", 2.5" and 3". They wanted NOTHING to do with them. Ended up jigging a Silver Buddy to get a few in the box.

I only buy a couple dozen live minnows when we go out. If you can get the perch fired up, you can switch to salties and they never know.

You could also buy a minnow trap and leave it out while you fish the first dozen. Depending on where you are fishing it can fill up pretty quick.

I believe that the Lake Erie perch pretty much are fixed on the emeralds. Any other lake ya can just about catch perch about anything. I have tried tons of plastics and jigging raps but they just want those shiners. If ya run out of bait use the eyes out of the fish you are keeping.. Works well on all perch erie and inlandI

tried gulp and powerbait minnows. no good. BIGTIME bite was on, and ran out of emeralds. caught pigs on tube jigs w/grubs, but not one nibble on the fake minnows. case closed.

Slammed the perch, in the bay, on tube jigs with no bait attached. They were even hittin the PERCH lookin rubber minnow. As for the lake, they dont seem to want artificial. Sometimes the salteds wont work either. But NEVER have I seen them turn down a live minnow.
