Shawnee
Anyone ever fish at the lake before? Will be in Bedford this weekend and probably going to stop by to do some fishing. Any good?

Apparently it's considered a "Dead Sea" but I fish it quite often and always done good there on mostly carp and pike...A little homework goes a long way.

Didn't the dam break and empty the whole thing a few years back?

Only ever fished from boat. Had great time catching pike and large mouth. Working the weed beds with spinner baits and buzz baits. Never up there this early in the year though. Mainly late april through june.

I like snakes, so not a problem for me. Whenever I fish Peters creek by greenman, I usually see this one 6 foot black ratsnake that loves to bask on the bridge. Sometimes I pick it up and play with it if the fishing is slow. Thing is probably older then me.

My roommate at Cal U lives near there and he works at the ice cream shop by the lake. He said that its probably one of the worst lakes he's ever seen. He would most likely not recommend fishing there.

I've herd mixed things about it but it depends on what you're fishing for... You could go south out of Bedford on 220 and head to Coon and Gordon there's some nice largemouth and big perch and crappie down there... I haven't fished at Shawnee in 5 or 6 years...

IDK but I seen some over there that would give her a serious run for her money Back to da lake in what I saw the past few years... A couple years back the lake was a nasty dark brown/green color (****loads of 8" bullheads, small-medium carp, and the odd pike) Park, DEP?, and PFBC were dumping something into the lake to clear out the algae from what I understood. Someone also supposedly dumped a 4' gator in there around that time also LOL (Fishing really was hit and miss, fish you did catch had red spots like a rash on them ) Last year weeds choked Colvins Launch area up to the launch, water actually got more clearer and the fishing improved... Last year

No it didn't look anything that bad, more like if you picked a spot and taped a few needle holes and they turned red. I think it was some sort of fungal infection that got under their skin they looked heathly besides the red spots and I didn't catch any fish out of there this year with it so far.

I saw quite a few nice pike pulled out last year in the 22-28inch range on shiners. Drove by a few weeks ago and I agree the water looks better especially for this time of year when its usually muddy. Not that you would travel farther but raystown is a nice spot worth fishing but I think its around an hour away.
