I have not seen the video birdmann, but the controversy has been there for decades. The politically privileged still rule the roost there so I focus my fishing attention elsewhere and try not to think about those 18+" crappies, bucketmouth bass, and other well fed fish dying of old age.

Is the place not fishable by law? Don't know much about it but 18" crappie sound nice.

Ha I know those dudes on the boat. They did at their own risk of getting caught.

It's owned by the Ambridge Water Authority.

It's holy waters have been the talk of Beaver Co. since I was a kid and probably long before that.

Lots of other water supplies are open to fishing, but since 911 I don't think we will see too much newly opened water. It's a shame, with all of the lost water, that it couldn't be opened on a permit basis.w_w.

If it has fins and gills, I'm there.

thanks worm waster. i've heard about "the res" for years. i've also heard about the politically connected getting permission to fish it. i wonder though, how much of the talk of politically granted permission is urban legend?

i was actually wondering if anyone knew specifically who was responsible for "granting permission"?

Sounds like he pretty much lives on his own lake. I'm still thinking about 18" crappie.

its another instance of not utilizing the resource to the benefit of all? in ohio there is water every mile to fish in pa the restrictions are endless take beaver run res. for example but the caveat is it would take 1 season to clean out ambridge res. like what happened to marshall lake in north park the problem is population there are 2 million people in a concentrated area with little water to fish and the dileema of stocking trout? why doesnt the pfbc stock white bass white perch crappie etc to bolster the fish populations in the already strained water resources stock prolific species oh well

Beaver Run and other lakes need to stay closed. How else are the privileged few and the lifetime locals that live close by going to catch monstrosity fish with every fishing dork in the tri-state washing their lures?

I have seen pictures of the crappies Tasty. They are unreal. No bun will hold those fillets. I've had some friends with the political permission, but have not had the pleasure of the opportunity lately. Last I knew it was still a $500 fine if you are caught and don't have the magic pass for "legally" angling there.

It's not the lake but the lack of fishing that makes those places exceptional. I say leave them closed for the brave few who fish there. Open them and they will become just another average lake which there are plenty of around. With the time and effort it would take to get them open, you could find your own secret spot that's legal to fish.

I don't think anyone here would disagree. But I also think that you would enjoy the opportunity to catch an exceptional fish. I don't know about you but a 17 or 18" crappie would be a personal best for me. Is there probably a few of those swiming around in Pymatuning Lake where I fish a lot? Maybe, but the chance of catching one that sizes increases in a lake that's not pressured much.

If you get permission to fish there (or Beaver Run) - then more power to ya. I'd love to get on either one of those waters.
If you fish it without permission (and especially if you do and brag about it or post videos) - then you are a **** bag.

Look at Quonemahoning (sp) and Coon/Gordon lake in Bedford both are water authority lakes and have no problems with contamination etc etc and there are some monster fish in those lakes...  It's just the owners of the companies flexing their muscles and giving their pompous political buddies "trophy waters" to poach fish (no doubt they don't use fishing license or own them...) And yet fish...
