Spring Lake O Salmo Trutta

Almost that time again my peoples! I may finally drive up this year to catch me some of those little 4-5 pounders that congregate in the Spring! Who knows, wiff the weather pattern over the Winter they may be there now?!?! Maybe a local can give us a little insider info...

    Mid April thru May.
    Weather is the key.
When the alwives, and whats left of the smelt, move in to spawn the browns will be here.

Never really done it myself and don't know the ins and outs of it, but I've known a few who always claimed a week or two after ice out was the time.... on the lake that is...

I've heard the same thing as Topdog, there are fish in shallow. The trout hit the shallows before the bait, looking for whatever warmth they can find and grabbing whatever they can find to eat. For the walk along the beach at Durand or Chimney bluffs and have a shot at 10 or so in the evening with Cleos or streamers, I agree with WB, it will peak later April when the alewives or the emeralds run, but once that happens the fish also start to get a little pickier. If you can hit the point where the trout are in and the bait isn't yet, they'll nail everything you're throwin' at them. Of course, even with them out there now, the water is still a might cold, and the fish will be somewhat sluggish. But the guys willing to take a chance on the logs with boats are hitting them in close trolling, and they have been reported in some of the harbor areas as well.

BTW TopDog, when did Mark Twain DRIVE to go fishing? LMAO!!!

I wouldn't want to have to subsist on the browns I could reach flinging flies knee deep along the shoreline right now.

10 feet of water is a pretty good cast out there even if your name is Rajeff.

Until the boats are running planer boards behind me (it has happened, and they were ticked when their line got cut )I would consider it iffy and keep hitting the streams.
